Saltwater Fishing

Saltwater fishing is nothing like freshwater fishing. To begin with, saltwater fishing takes significantly stronger and heavier tackle and equipment than that used by freshwater fishermen.

There are several categories of saltwater fishing discussed in this article.

For starters, there is the light-medium category, which would include fishing for certain species such as Snook, Redfish and Spotted Sea Trout. These fish and others in this category are typically caught in bays and other similar estuaries. Also included in this category would be inshore fish such as the Pompano. If you are fishing for these species to eat them, be aware that during summer months redfish and trout will most probably contain worms.

A spinning reel in the class of a Penn 710 or 712, or 4500ss spooled with a fine quality 10-pound test monofilament line works better along with light to medium action rod. Penn makes good quality reels that will hold up to the harsh saltwater fishing environment.

For terminal tackle you will begin by tying a shock leader of approximately 18 inches using 20 pound test line or fluorocarbon. Fluorocarbon is slightly more expensive but is significantly less visible to the fish. Attach the leader tying line to line or use a saltwater rated barrel swivel. For the hook you'd better use a 6/0, preferably an Eagle Claw.

The second category afferent to saltwater fishing is the medium to heavy category for species such as Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, and smaller Jacks. These species of fish are most usually found near shore regions of the Gulf of Mexico and on the Lower East Coast. In this class you could also include the smaller “schoolie” King Mackerel under the legal size limit of 24”.

Do not forget to first consult a saltwater species book for knowing the difference between the large Spanish and juvenile Kingfish. They are extremely similar. The easiest way to tell the difference is that the Spanish Mackerel will have a "black flag", on the anterior portion of its dorsal fin where the King Mackerel, with the exception of very young fish, does not have this special detail. The second more reliable way to tell is by looking at the lateral line that runs down the body. In a Spanish Mackerel this line drops gradually behind the pectoral fin whereas in the King Mackerel the line drops off sharply.

To be on the safe side, equip yourself with a Penn 704 or similar size equipment spooled with 12-15 lb test coupled with a thin wire leader of 20lb test or so. Check your local fishing regulations for the most appropriate hook, in Florida a small treble like a 2/0 is used.

From the moment the inshore net bans were placed these species have come back more abundantly than ever and you are most certain to find some. Keep in mind that Redfish, King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel are migratory species so you will have to verify the seasonal availability for these species of fish.

Enjoy your fishing trip. Tight lines!

Roger Raglin Hunting - About Roger Raglin

Roger Raglin Hunting

Roger owns and operates BKS productions and also produces the extremely popular television show Roger Raglin Outdoors. Roger makes northeastern Oklahoma his home and lives near Coweta. He and his wife Darlene have five children. They also have four grandchildren.

In 1987 with a growing list of hunting accomplishments already under his belt, Roger had scheduled four fall hunting trips in an attempt to shoot a single season North American deer slam. However upon the suggestion of one of his guides, Arizona resident Duane Adams, Roger ended up also shooting his hunts with a camera behind him. That whole thing seemed to be a pretty good fit for Roger. The events that would follow that initial whim are now history.

With nearly 60 full featured hunting DVD's on the market, BKS Productions represents one of the largest active video production companies in America. BKS tapes are distributed by every major outlet including, Bass Pro, Walmart, Gander Mountain, Cabelas, Dick's Sporting, Academy, Shields, to name a few. It is also impossible to walk into any rental outlet that carries hunting videos and NOT find Roger's tapes. In fact ask the clerk in attendance whose tapes are the most popular and invariably more times than not their response will be, "Roger Raglin's BKS Tapes." Roger Raglin Hunting

The formula for Roger's success is quite simple - good wholesome entertainment that the entire family can watch; ethical and safe hunting practices; clean kill scenes; broadcast quality camera work; top professional production value; and perhaps most importantly there is Roger himself.

The enthusiasm, drive and excitement that Roger delivers on camera is truly contagious. His patented, "Jiminy Christmas" saying is loved and repeated by the many thousands who have followed BKS tapes over the years. Roger's humor is natural, his devotion to the sport of hunting is genuine and his knowledge and expertise as an outdoorsman and hunter are exemplary. His record speaks for itself: Roger Raglin Hunting

An accomplished marksman with rifle, bow and black powder weapons. Roger has taken over 100 bucks that score 130 B&C points or better; 62 bucks scoring over 140; 25 scoring over 160; 7 top the 170 mark and Roger's biggest whitetail scores just a hair over 220 B&C points.

i don't have a company but i create and manufacture my own lures for friends and myself that work for perch and walleye on lake erie. how can i get some store to sell my lures in their store?

    • ANSWER:
Try going directly to the store manager. Sometimes they like to provide a little bit of space for locally made items. They'll take a certain percentage of course. If your lures sell well at one of the stores then you could go to the regional manager etc. to get them placed in more stores. If these big stores don't work out you might try a smaller local tackle shop.

    • ANSWER:
I had a look at your site and the first thing that jumped out at me was the poor spelling. I'm not knocking your site but you need it to look as professional as possible. Poor spelling just looks unprofessional and hackey. Clean up the spelling and try to compress the images so that it loads a little faster. Good Luck with it.

  3. QUESTION:
How fast do I reel artificial worms? (Senkos)?
OK, well I just started fishing worms today that I bought at discount tackle. I am fishing them in a wacky rig how fast should reel and how often do i twitch them.

    • ANSWER:
Slow as possible. The plastic worm is made for reeling in as slow as possible. Reeling in fast makes the bass think, "Hey! That ain't real!" Find you're groove by experimenting with all the speeds possible. Senkos are the greatest worms ever made by Gary Yamamoto. My personal all-time favorite is the Senko. That wacky-style is deadly man, it's deadly. Don't fish it too fast but, experiment with different slower techniques.
      Hope i helped ya out.

    Where/How to Sell Gold Jewellery?
What is the best way to sell gold jewelery in India or in the US without taking a big discount ? I know that taking them to a shop would mean that you will have to sell it a very low price, but I need a good rate since I need to take care of some loans. It would be great if some one has any clever ideas to tackle this. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
I would strongly suggest checking out the Silver and Gold Exchange before selling gold or silver to ANYONE. I did a great deal of research, online and offline, and learned a lot about this business. I checked pawn shops, jewelers, "gold parties", hotel "buying events as well as the online buyers, including the "as seen on tv" guys. I found that the Silver and Gold Exchange paid more than anyone else I could find. I liked the fact that they post the prices they pay per gram (beware of the places that quote in pennyweight/DWT) on a live price chart at http://SilverAndGoldExchange.com I also checked out their Better Business Bureau report and found they have never had a single complaint as opposed to HUNDREDS of complaints some other companies have! I recommend them 100%

Fishing Reel Repairs

Florida Fishing With Sand Fleas!

Every fisherman who has ever thrown his bait into the Gulf of Mexico likes to fish for Pompano. They're the best tasting fish in the gulf, bar none. They're also fairly easy to catch from June until the middle of December. Winter and spring months are only fair because they are scattered and generally smaller than the one's caught in the summer and fall. The Pompano were running up and down the Gulf of Mexico this fine Fourth of July weekend. This is a fish that truly loves warmer water, with their preferred water temperature being between 82 and 98 degrees Fahrenheit.

Walking along the beach just after first light with the smell of the ocean and the spray from the surf leaving the taste of salt on your lips is an absolutely wonderful way to start the day. The sun, just peeking through the mist, will soon burn away any lingering wisps of fog remaining on the beach. Seabirds fighting over remnants of a mysterious sea object that has washed ashore, reminds me to protect the shrimp I had stored in a bucket next to my beach chair. A solitary pelican has just crept within 15 yards of me and is staring at the bait bucket as though he can see inside. He must have heard the shrimp moving around.

This beautiful morning I was fishing off the beautiful sugar white sand of Mexico Beach, just east of Port St. Jo and just down the road from Panama City, Florida. One of the few areas that is not overly populated, either by local fishermen or by tourists, it was a surprise to find myself relatively alone. Looking up and down the beach you could only see an occasional beach walker searching the sand to see what secrets the sea had washed ashore on the early morning tide.

Pompano are not fish eaters so the first thing you have to do when fishing is to secure your bait. Besides the shrimp I had already bought, I had to have sand fleas. They're on any Pompano's menu and they're usually plentiful along most beaches. The easiest and cheapest way to obtain these them is to catch them yourself! They're found at the waters edge as it recedes back into the sea. As the water rushes back from the beach, you'll see small holes appear at the water's edge. Those holes are where a sand flea is burrowing. Immediately dig down and you'll find them.

For my sand flea hunting I simply use a sturdy bucket that I've drilled many holes in the bottom and sides. This allows the water to flush out of its container and leave the sand fleas on the bottom when I dig for them. There are several types of sand flea rakes you could buy, but making your own is more fun. I've even seen kids on the beach digging for them with a stiff toy beach bucket. Just use whatever is handy. After you catch a dozen or more, put them into your bait bucket with a little sand and water and you're ready to start fishing. You can always catch more fleas when you run out of the ones you've already caught.

Pompano run in schools. Where you find one, you will usually find many, so remember that when you're catching sand fleas. Pompano also eat shrimp with live ones being the better bait but dead ones will work if your bait shrimp is not alive.

I use a weight 5' rod and a light reel with 8 to 10 lb test line. I use this because I know that most pompano are between 1 pound and 3 pounds. I also keep a 7' surf rod and surf reel with 15 lb test line in the other line holder just in case I hang a bigger fish.

The rig that has worked well for me starts with a barrel swivel on the end of my line. I'll then tie a 3' to 4' foot of 30 lb leader to the swivel. After that comes the two 8" lengths of leader on which I will tie 1/0 circle hooks. I'll tie those about 12" apart. After that, all that remains is tying a 2 ounce egg sinker to the bottom of the leader. Then all I have to so is bait my hooks and throw the rig as far out on the gulf as I can. That's usually about 30 to 40 yards.

There are other more sophisticated and expensive ways to catch both pompano and sand fleas, but I choose to keep it simple and as cheap as I can. Vacations are costly enough without spending a lot of money on bait and the fish you will catch with them. Most of us, if we add up the cost of a fishing trip and divide that into the amount of fish we catch, would be much better off going to a good restaurant. I figure that counting the gas for the trip to the beach, lodging, food, bait and a few souvenirs, each fish I caught that day cost me approximately 8.00 each.

how to repair a fishing reel damaged by saltwater(please help)?
It is a spinning reel.It was damaged by saltwater a while back and i am going fishing in 2 days and i would really like to fix it up.any help is greatly appreciated.thanks.
what i mean by damaged is that i have a hard time reeling,or turning the knob.

    • ANSWER:

  4. QUESTION:
can anyone give me a website where i can learn to repair a penn fishing reel?

i have a penn series rod that broke and i would like to know if anyone knows a course-like website that would teach me how to repair it. no immature answers

    • ANSWER:
I just work from the exploded diagram which comes with the reel. Just make sure you get all the washers, etc. stacked in the correct order as shown on the diagram.

You can print out the proper diagram from the Penn website, and order any parts you need from them as well, if you can't get them at your local tackle shop.

      http://www.pennreels.com/03_service/parts/explist.htm

Some hints: make sure you have quality tools (screwdrivers, wrenches) of the correct sizes, so you don't tear up the parts, and be very careful with small parts (dog springs, etc) so they don't jump out of the reel and across the room when you're taking it apart.

  5. QUESTION:
would like to know if thier is a place in toledo ohio that repairs Zebco 33 fishing reels?
one bought this year and one purchased last year one want reel line in and the other one slips when you release the release position

    • ANSWER:
I have been using Zebco 33 reels for more than 3 decades and I love them. They are inexpensive, easy to use, and are appropriate for many types of fishing. However, the reels that I purchased 15-20 years ago are of much better quality than the ones they are producing today. I have old Zebco 33's that I've been using for a long, long time that are still in great working condition. The ones that I have purchased in recent years seem to foul up and turn into a peice of crap in a very short time. The quality just plain sucks! You'd be better off going on eBay and finding some of the old 33s to purchase.

Different Types Of Fishing Nets

Different types of cricket balls

Cricket balls are manufacturers in various designs. Four of the main cricket balls designs in the UK are Kookaburra, Slazenger, Readers and Gunn and Moore. All manufactured balls are suitable for training and matches but, there are also quite a few novelty balls that are obviously not always in use.

For starters, let's take a look at cricket balls manufactured by Readers. Alfred Readers, the cricket ball manufacturers, have been in cricket ball manufacturing business for over 200 years. They carry about 29 different balls in their range excluding variations on colours and sizes. Their hard balls are used for matches and training while their soft balls are solely used for training. Club players are very loyal to their brand. There is often, very little difference in the hard cricket ball, compared to cricket balls manufactured by other companies, in the same price range. However, once you find a ball you like it is quite hard to change to another one.

The top ball is the Test and County cricket ball. Their retail price varies but it can be bought for around 70. It is their best ball and is suitable for first class and International matches. So why is it the best?

You have to look at the interior of the ball to find the answer as that is where the quality lies. The inner core is made with 5 layers of cork and worsted, which helps retain its shape and gives it a consistent performance akin to Test cricket. The outer layer is from the best cow hide and the stitching is the finest available.

Other cricket balls that are made by Readers have their merits but, all have less attention given to them. This is basically due to the poorer quality materials that are used to make the ball and are hence cheaper in price. That doesn't mean the ball won't do a good job but, the job will need to be properly matched with each ball.

The Club cricket ball is the cheapest ball and retails around 8. It is suitable for training or for 20/20 matches only. Most of the cricket balls are only available as men's and youth, with only a couple made in women's size.

The men's ball weighs 5 1/4 oz, the youth ball weighs 4 3/4 oz and the women's ball weighs in at 5 oz. Most clubs tend to let the women continue using the smaller ball however if women play in men's cricket they must use the bigger ball.

Other cricket balls made by Readers are primarily used for training and building confidence and skills. They have a Supaball, which is a softer ball, as it has a PVC cover and a lightweight core. It is the most popular soft ball as it is suitable for use in Kwik Cricket tournaments. It is also available in a multitude of colours.

Other balls include the windball, the Allplay (red tennis ball) All round ball and indoor balls. These balls all have their function and a decent cricket coach will have a selection of these in his kitbag, no matter where he goes. The Reacta ball is intended to sharpen up the reflexes of the fielders mainly because the ball creates an uneven bounce due to its 6 bumpy sides.

Most companies also manufacture presentation balls for players that achieve something memorable during a game such as, 5 wickets, a hat trick or a century. In addition, companies manufacture souvenir sized balls, which are smaller versions of the big cricket balls.

The different colours that cricket balls are available in are red, pink, white, yellow, orange and split colour balls. The split colour balls have one half white and the other half red. These split colour balls are for coaches and bowlers to see how the ball comes out of the bowlers hand and to see the way the balls flight changes through the air.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
My fish layed eggs. What do I need to do to keep them safe from the other fish?
Ok, so I have 3 different types of fish. I have one little yellow guppy, 2 mollies, and something I am not sure of. I noticed my big fat molly all of a sudden got skinny and has been hiding behind this little rock/cave we have in the tank. She NEVER moves from there. I also noticed the orange fish sitting back there with her. I was cleaning the tank a little bit last night and shut the filter off. Then I noticed this itty bitty bay swimming by the plants. Then I noticed one or two others swimming back there. They were definately mollies. I also noticed on the plant behind the rock there is a bundle of fish eggs. I'm not sure if they are from the molly or the orange fish. So here is my question. If the molly fish had babies... wouldn't there be more than 1 or 2? Or have the fish been eating them? My other question is, should I take the big fish out of the tank until the other eggs hatch so they don't eat those fish? Or should I get one of those hatching net things and move the plant?

    • ANSWER:
Mollies and guppy's are live bearers. If the eggs are from one of them they aborted the babies and the eggs are dead. There may have been more fish that were eaten, also, there could be more that you have not seen yet. Just leave everything alone and make sure the fish are fed well. The babies should be able to find places to hide. If you try to move them it could stress them and cause death or illness.

  2. QUESTION:
Fish gulping for air at the top of their tank?
Yesterday I purchased two goldfish and put them in a bowl (I conditioned the water and followed all of the instructions). Anyway, they had been gulping at the surface all day today in their bowl, so I asked a question on here and called the pet store. I was told that they were already too big for the bowl, there wasn't enough air in the bowl, and the cloudiness was from ammonia. I was urged to get a tank with a filter immediately. Tonight I purchased a goldfish starter tank (10 gallons at the recommendation of several workers at the pet store), which included a filter, fish food, several different types of water conditioner, and a net.
Anyway, I put together the filter and filled the tank. I conditioned the water and let it reach room temp. before putting the two goldfish into the tank. At first they seemed to enjoy it, swimming around, but now they are back at the surface gulping for air just like they were in their bowl.
    What could be causing this?

PS: The filter is working fine, I can see it and hear it.
@ No: Will it become cycled eventually? would you suggest I remove one of the goldfish and return it to the pet store? Will ammonia poisoning affect them right away or will it take a few weeks?
@ No: Since they have no where else to stay for those 4-6 weeks, will they be ok in the tank until it filters? If not, is there anything I can do to keep them healthy until it filters? Once it starts filtering, will the ammonia be removed from the water?
Sorry I keep asking so many questions. Obviously I should have done a little more research before going out and buying them.

    • ANSWER:
The tank is still not cycled. Ammonia poisoning will still get to them.

The 10 gallon will be ok for a few months but you'll need a 100 gallon tank soon.

Yes, eventually it will become cycled but this takes 4-6 weeks. If you ever have to get rid of them, release them into a pond or lake with goldfish already in it. Sending back to the store gives them a great chance of death. Ammonia poisoning affects them almost instantly.

  3. QUESTION:
How do I care for baby fish I found in the tank this morning?
My roommate is gone for winter break still, but she has a 30 gal fish tank with 2 bali sharks and two different types of small schooling fish, I'm not sure what type. This morning I noticed a couple of babies in the tank, I think total so far I have found and netted 5 and I'm continuously checking the areas I've found them for more. I am a broke college student waiting for financial aid so I only have what's on hand to keep these guys alive, I know they can't be in the main population and that most of their brothers and sisters have already been snacks for the other fish so as of now they are in gladware at the bottom of the tank weighted down with rocks from the bottom of the tank some algae on the rocks, a section of the plant I found them hiding in and some flake food I ground up with my fingers...I poked holes in the top in hopes that the water would flow in and out, but I don't think that idea worked. Does anybody have any suggestions to better these little babies chance of survival?
Edit: I have to keep them in the main tank in some form or another because it is heated and I don't have another heat source, and they are in the same tank water just in a tupperware...how often should I change the water in it? There are some pretty big fish in the tank, I'm sure if I didn't separate them they'd get eaten.

    • ANSWER:
You should probably take them out of that tank before the rest of them get eaten. LIke try to find something to put them in like a conatainer big enough for the baby fish. Or if you have another like small or medium tank or whatever. Put them in there and they will be safe from the other fish. It dosent matter what size you just need to get them out of that tank so they will be safe from the other fish.

  4. QUESTION:
Best method to disinfect tank and bowl after fish has died, what to do with gravel and bowl/tank after?
My betta died of dropsy, so I need to disinfect the 2.5 gallon tank, ~1/2 gallon bowl, and gravel/decorations/plastic plants I used before I can do anything else. I have a couple of concerns, especially regarding the gravel and such.

First off, what's the best way to disinfect the tank and bowl? I've been told that soaking the tank and bowl in bleach works well so long as your rinse, rinse, rinse, but how much bleach vs. water would I use? Is there a different method?

Secondly, I bought the gravel and decorations at the same pet store I work at, and knowing my boss, they're probably really cheap. What should I do to disinfect these? I know for a fact that the gravel is coated, and I've been told that coated gravel doesn't respond to bleach very well. Also, the paint some of the decorations I have got kinda flaky after several washes. I also have plastic plants. Keeping all that in mind, is there a safe way to sanitize all of these items for future use, or should I just get new gravel/decorations/plants?

Lastly, any advice for what to do with the 2.5 gallon tank once it's sanitized? I'm getting a new 5 gallon tank for a new fish, so should I store the 2.5 gallon for some sort of future use, sell it, or what?
You can see the type of tank in the link provided below; it's not my picture, but it's the exact same type of tank I used:

  5. QUESTION:
Brothers and Sisters/Jehovah's Witnesses - Bow Ties and Fish net Stockings - are they accepted in your area?
Ofcourse depending on your region or area or culture your answer may differ. But personally, if you saw a Brother wearing a Bowtie, or a Sister wearing 'Fish net' stockings, what would be your reaction or feelings??

    Would you have no reaction?
Would you think its weird or different?
Do you think its inappropiate, flashy or drawing attention to oneself?
Do you think its classy, creative and/or nice looking?

And on a similarly related note, about those 'fish net' looking stockings. They are not 'really' like fish net stockings, but more of a layered, designed looking stocking....atleast the ones I've seen. At first I was completely SHOCKED about the idea of a sister wearing 'fish net' stockings after another sister told me that they are worn in her congregation, but that was likely because I associated them with 'Women of the Night', not a Christian Woman. But after seeing them, I felt differently, the ones I have seen are simply 'called' fish net stockings but are not the 'typical' kind you would think of. So lesson learned for me to not jump to conclusions about anything before actually 'knowing' what it was.

But how do you personally feel about these particular types of clothing?
Are they accepted in your area? Or are they viewed as being 'racy', 'over the top', 'flashy', 'inappropiate' etc??

I am not asking IF they are inappropiate, because many other factors have to be considered as well. And additionally the Bible gives us principles to apply to help us come to our own personal and Bible trained decision.
    Please Star for others..
Vot - I wouldn't be caught dead in fishnet stockings either. lol
Kerika - lol!! Well me and you are from the same 'region' so I know exactly what you are talking about.
"Bald brothers who wear bow ties look really funny to me." Well, you would probably injure yourself laughing at me! lol - I am currently bald as my current picture indicates (not as slick as Mr. Clean though) and I do also occasionally wear bow ties, if I had enough I would wear them to EVERY meeting. lol To me they look classy when done right, and I dont really mind the comparisons to some 'Muslims' who wear them. But as you said 'to each his own', well said.
Mrs. Kitty - thanks for sharing, many people feel similarly. Interestingly though there are Bethel brothers who wear bow ties, and I have seen several brothers in the Gilead graduation pictures with them. So again, I think its just one of those things that we all have to be reasonable - in IF we wear such things, and/or HOW we view others who do.
I wanna be a fish - I agree with you too. I am slim AND nerdy (lol), and I also think sister should strive to look modest, appropiate for the occasion, and well arranged instead of 'sexy' or 'hot'.

    • ANSWER:
LOL, One of the local elders wears bow ties all the time. He is also called upon to give talks at Circuit Assemblies. I think they can be very classy when done right. (Think Tux)

Fishnets are okay as well. They are just another form of hose, some tights could be taken as 'suggestive' if worn with a too short skirt.

It's the mini skirts/dresses and the 4 inch heels that I catch myself wondering about sometimes. Sometimes our younger sisters let a bit of the world in with fashion, but they are young and it's all a learning process, I don't think harshly of them. We need to make sure we don't have a 'rafter' in our eye when looking at our brothers and sisters. :) )

Esca - Best Fishing Lures For Bass

Esca Lures

www.escalure.co.uk

There are many factors that play into a successful day of bass fishing. Facts that we do know is that the weather is a big one. Is it sunny or cloudy, windy or calm? The stage of the moon and barometric pressure also seems to have an affect on whether these moody fish decide to feed or not. Spawning season also plays into the big picture. One can do an in depth study on each of these variables, however how many of us really have the time to analyze all the scientific and the meteor logic effects on bass. Let's face it. When we finally get a day away from work to go bass fishing, that's what we are going to do. Go fishing. You may have a few hours the day before to get ready for your trip and choose the lures that you think will work the best. Let's talk about basic things that have worked for me.

Bass fishing with plastic worms always seems to work the best for me. As a standard 3-4" worms are great. The pumpkin shades such as brown, orange brown, red brown, craw, and tan work well, a little glitter doesn't hurt either. I have also found that black worms work very well in murky water. The bass seem to pick up on the contrast. Try spraying a little WD-40 on the plastic worm, the bass are attracted to the scent.

Cast your bait in areas that bass like to hang out, usually in the shadows. They like to feel protected. Around tree stumps, fallen logs, tall reeds, and shore ledges. Work the worm on the bottom, reeling in very very slowly. When you feel a tap, tap, tap point your rod down and take up the slack in the line. When you feel him tighten the line, SET THE HOOK.

In the event that worms are not working on that particular day, you should have an arsenal crankbait ready to try. Natural baitfish colors seem to work best. For clear water, try a pearl melon color or something with red patterns in it. Jerk baits also work well in clear water conditions. Try casting into the areas at different angles also. The bass may just want the right angle of attack.

These are just a few basic suggestions to try without getting too caught up in the science of it all. The main objective is to just relax, enjoy the day outdoors and have fun.

Top Tuna Fishing Lures

Tuna are powerful saltwater fish that are highly prized source of food. Some species of tuna can weigh over 1000 pounds and are widely distributed around the world. Sport fishermen consider tuna to be the ultimate big game sport fish to catch and very few anglers will get a chance to catch these monsters due to accessibility and over fishing commercially have reduced the stock dramatically. Some of the top producing tuna lures are the artificial squid and feather jigs.

One of the best methods of tuna fishing is trolling from a boat. Trolling requires heavy lures and can be done with natural bait or artificial lures. Daisy chains and spread bar rigs are two great producers for tuna fishing. The daisy chain rigs are used to attract game fish. The lures are rigged together into strings and trolled at different speed depending on the conditions. The chain simulates a school of baitfish and usually the last bait has a hook hidden inside it. Many anglers like to use ballyhoo, herring and artificial squid as bait for this type of rig. If you are new to the sport, you can buy ready-rigged daisy chains at the tackle shop.

The spreader bar rig is an enhancement of the daisy chain rig. Instead of using a single string of bait, the spreader bar utilizes multiple daisy chains attach to a steel rod and trolled behind a boat. This method imitates a larger school of baitfish. Many spreader bars can be used at the same time to further increase the formation of baitfish. Similar to the daisy chain, the last bait or lure of each spreader bar has a large tuna hook attached. The idea is to make it resemble a game fish chasing a school of fish.

Trolling with feather jigs is another productive method of tuna fishing. These types of tuna lures can be trolled individually or as a group. It consists of a leaded weight jig head attach to a feather skirt. A leader is threaded through lure and tied to a large hook. Feather jigs come in many colors scheme. Choose natural colors of baitfish for normal conditions. Fluorescent colors can produce great results and work best in low light conditions or murky water.

Tuna fishing with daisy chains and spread bars rigs is a lot of fun. Watching tuna darting up to surface and hitting the baits is an amazing experience.

The Top Ten Bass Fishing Lures

Bass is a very popular sporting fish that anglers like to try and catch, following is a list of the 10 best lures to use, as well as a bit on how and why each one can be used. This is purely opinion of course, but should provide you with a decent guide to help give you the edge out on the water!

1. Chatter-bait

The Chatter-bait is still a relatively new fishing lure but has made a big splash on the bass fishing scene. From tournaments to weekends on the water it has been making a name for itself by consistently producing bass. The Chatter-bait falls somewhere between a buzz-bait and a jig in presentation.

2. Swim-bait

In recent years Swim-baits have become the best bet for catching trophy-size large-mouth bass. There is a large range of Swim-baits available to match your location. Their popularity in "Big Bass" waters like those found in California and Texas push them onto this list at No. 9.

3. Creature Baits

There is a huge variety of soft plastic lures on the market that look like anything and nothing in the water. Creature baits like the Yum Woolly Beavertail have given anglers a new set of plastics to trick pressured bass. Creature baits can also be used as trailers for other baits.

4. Classic Lip Crank Bait

Crank-baits really are time tested bass catching lures. Large or small, these cranks can catch all of them. Their precision and physical appearance is constantly being updated but even the classic older versions will deliver you plenty of fish. Tournament anglers will often be seen running cranks to locate fish on large flats or over deep water structure.

5. Bass Jig

Flip it, pitch it, swim it, either way the Jig is a great way to catch bass. It is a consistent 'go-to' bait for tournament anglers and rightly so. Natural colour football head jigs are great in deep structure or you can try swimming a shad coloured model off of ledges and over structure. The addition of a trailer is always a winner.

6. Lip-less Crank

The Lip-less crank is a more versatile version of the classic crank. It's tight wiggle and multitude of depths and speeds it can be presented at have made it a favourite of professionals and amateurs alike. Kevin Van Dam uses this lure as his 'go-to' bait. Designed by KVD himself, this "sexy shad" is a must have bait!

7. Senko

The Senko has quickly become a favourite amongst anglers. It can be presented in a great variety of ways and bass really love each and every one of them. My favourite Senko technique is a Wacky Rig.

8. Spinner bait

Spinner baits like the TerminatorT2 spinner bait are the most reached for bait for locating bass. They can be fished fast or slow in deep water or shallow water. Spinner baits are especially effective as the water gets warmer. If you're out this summer and fishing in a new spot, tie on a spinner bait and do some searching. I'm sure you'll have a good time and some decent success.

9. The tube

The Tube bait is one the most versatile bass lures available. It catches large- and small-mouth bass alike and can be used in any waters at almost any temperature to catch fish. Its versatility and ability to mimic so many things give it the No. 2 ranking. Try a Berkeley Powerbait 3" or 4" in Pumpkinseed or Green Pumpkin in any water you fish. The best one I have come across is a Texas-Rig with a tungsten weight. The tungsten weight makes clicking noises as it bounces across objects, the sound of it helps bass look for it in unusual conditions. The tube gets its second place spot due to its incredible success at catching small mouth bass. It is my favourite 'go-to' bait for small mouth bass fishing.

10. Worm

Soft plastic worms come in many shapes and sizes, all of which have a place. They're by far the most versatile fishing lure on the market, and are effective on their own or as trailers. Large versions over 10" have pulled monster bass from Falcon lake while finesse worms on drop shot rigs have been used to fool even the most wary of bass. My personal 'go-to' bait is a Zoom Trick Worm Texas rigged weightless, or with a tungsten weight if needed. You can use it as a top-water, in weeds, over logs, or put a weight on and throw it into rock piles in six metres or more of water. Nothing is better than the classic worm!

  2. QUESTION:
What the value of 7 handmade fishing lures?
ok so I got these when I was like 6 i'm 20 now never used them ever!!! Just found them doing some spring cleaning and I want to sell them they're in very very good condition some have feathers some hairs and sparkly string one has nylon strings on it two have a gold tip on it 6 are about 1 inch long and the second 1½ I know they're hand made because the guy who made them right infront of me so how do I price them???

    • ANSWER:
They are probably hand tied fly fishing flies. I would guess they are of relativly low value because so many people can make these. I guess it would depend on how old they but sorry i would guess they are not worth much. Take them to a pawn shop and just see.. Who knows what they would offer.

You could also try putting them in a frame ( like a small Picture frame) and sell them that way. It would add value as a decoration.

    What's this fishing lure?
I saw a plastic lure at wal-mart once that resembled a fly. The bug, not the feathered type of lure. It was about blue-bottle sized, and realistic. Soft Plastic with clear wings, black body. I'd love to experiment with such a thing, but no one will tell me what it is. I should go back to wal-mart, but Id rather find it online. They also had a dragonfly and bee of that type, I believe...Im iffy on the dragonfly.

Flounder Fishing Lures

Delicious Summer Flounder Recipes - Associated Content from Yahoo ...

Catch Flounder - Surf fishing the beach

Introduction

In general fishing is patience, patience and yet more patience, and flounder fishing with a fishing rod is just what is required.

Flounder is renowned for its mild, flakey white delicious flesh. Large flounder can be filleted but the smaller ones are delicious cooked whole

To successfully target Flounder, you must understand their habitat and use their inquisitive behavior. Flounder like relatively warm water and lie in wait for their prey facing into the current and using structure to reduce water flows.

Where and How to fish

So where do you find Flounder? The standard habitat for flounders are shallow sandy or muddy estuaries, along beaches outside of estuaries, around piers, rocky outcrops and breakwaters.

In areas of long expanses of sand or mud it is best to fish on the incoming tide and outgoing tide targeting the gullies and channels, for this is where Flounder will congregate waiting for the high tide when they will spread out over the flats and retreat to as the tide retreats. As always do not forget to fish your feet first as many fish are caught within 10 yards of the shore.

Understanding the feeding habits of the flounder is the key to catching them. Flounder are ambush hunters, lying in wait partially buried in the mud and pouncing on their unsuspecting prey.

Wherever you are fishing for flounder follow the current or the tide up the estuary.

Another key to catching more flounder is to remember that flounder love structure. Structure can be gullies, rocky outcrops, piles (wharves, Docks Piers).

Structure is also important at slack tide when the Flounder will hug whatever structure exists. On the back side of the larger pilings, rocks etc. a small eddy forms, and the flounder will position themselves on the bottom in that eddy facing into the current.

The trick to catching flounder given what we have learned so far is to have your bait up current of the structure and to bring it towards the structure slowly and as realistically as possible. With live bait this is not to difficult as long as you exercise patience, however with cut baits a slow slight jigging action appears to work best. If you decide to use soft baits (plastics) try to use a bait which is very supple so that at a slow trolling speed it will wriggle and emulate a live bait. Some suggestions are pink or red plastic grub tail on a jig head or the Bass Assassin lures. Test new plastics as come onto the market you may find a winner.

This brings up the question of what are the best baits? I have had success with mullet fingerlings, and mud minnows hooked through the lips. When these are in short supply live shrimp hooked through the horn, fresh peeler crabs, lug worms and rag worms and soft baits, all work very well and result in good flounder bags.

Another tip is to remember that Flounder generally swim in small shoals and where you get one you are very likely to catch more.

Flounder tend to mouth the bait before swallowing, so if you strike to quickly you are liable to pull the bait out of the flounders mouth. It is not possible with all baits but the fishing tackle I use whenever possible a 4/0 circle hook on a 15 to 20 inch 30 lb leader or a similar length of wire trace. I prefer to use a running trace and fish with a slack line so that the flounder can move of with the bait and not feel the tug of the line until it has swallowed the bait. I use a ball sinker as light as is possible to effect the cast. The ball sinker will move slowly around on the seafloor adding an additional tease factor to your bait. For soft baits I use the same rig but with a 2/0 jig head hook. Additionally the addition of beads both plastic and floating in different colours on the line directly above the hook, in fact anything that can improve visibility, vibration and movement of your bait is to be sought after, as it can significantly improve flounder hook up. The addition of small chemical lights above the hook also works.

There is much written and espoused about fishing rods and fishing reels for flounder fishing. In my humble opinion any good medium graphite rod will work admirably well.

  1. QUESTION:
I want a list of 5 popular artificial lures/baits for fishing for redfish, trout, or flounder?
I live in coastal South Carolina and looking to get a hand up on these big fish that are running right now. I am looking at all water depths and trying not to worry too much about water clarity. Also, I need a valid website for fishing knots, please.

    • ANSWER:
      Flounder Catching'
Don't know if it will help, but flounder are both scent and sight feeders. Yes, you can catch them on artificial. The water must be in decent shape and you have to let them "have the bait" for a few seconds before setting; the hook. My fave artificial baits for flounder include 1) Triple Chance spoon, gold, 1/4 oz. You cannot fish this in the wind. Has to be still or with the wind. 2) Small yellow twin-tail plastics (Any color may do but rig it on a 1/8 oz jig head, 1/4 if having difficulty casting). 3) Live shrimp and/or MudMinnows (don't know what these are called on the East Coast) will also work. Think about how a flounder strikes. She sits on the bottom waiting on an ambush. Your bait must be worked within distance and the flounder will rise up, gather the bait in their narrow, toothy mouth and will not take it in until they settle back to the bottom. I do not pursue them as much these days but that is how we used to do it. Slow everything down. Their are also "runs" in the spring and fall down here. Always triggered by changes in water temp. The fall run is the best.
the D.O.A. shrimp are the best artificial lures for speckled trout and redfish
Here is more info-My first choice on jigs is a red head, quarter ounce jig coupled white grub tail. This is a good all around bait for either species. This rig when spiced up with a small piece of dead shrimp on the hook is extremely effective. It can be worked in water as deep as five to six feet or as shallow as twelve inches. However, to fish this rig in twelve inches, you will have to increase the rate of your retrieve to keep the bait from snagging on the bottom. There are a number of jigs that are available that are rigged weedless. Besides the basic white, it’s always good to have a couple of other colored tails available, such as pink, yellow, green, smoke and root beer. I have found that when the water is clouded, yellow tends to produce better than white. I recommend to switch colors as water clarity and conditions change. While we are on the subject of plastic baits, there are a number of good alternatives available on the market. These include soft jerk baits and look-a-likes such as shrimp, small bait fish and crabs. There is one distinctive advantage to using jerk baits such as the Berkely Power Baits, they can be rigged totally weedless. And for those of us who haven’t mastered the art of pin point casting, this is a major plus. Also, don't forget the bucktail jigs. Bagley and Key Largo baits produce some fantastic bucktail jigs. One of my favorites is a brown flathead jig that is rigged weedless that has the appearance of a small crab or shrimp. We recently used this jig while filming a show and produced a number of redfish. In fact, the guide couldn’t believe that the redfish ate these jigs and wouldn’t touch a live shrimp. Anyway, I could probably spent the next year talking about jigs, but let's move along. My first choice on jigs is a red head, quarter ounce jig coupled white grub tail. This is a good all around bait for either species. This rig when spiced up with a small piece of dead shrimp on the hook is extremely effective. It can be worked in water as deep as five to six feet or as shallow as twelve inches. 2. QUESTION:
What sort of fishing gear and tackle is appropriate for fishing for redfish, mackeral, and flounder?
What sort of fishing gear and tackle is appropriate for fishing for redfish, mackeral, and flounder in the surf around Galveston, Texas?

I am looking to buy new rod, reel, and lures.
Specially what is good for fishing in the surf on the beaches of Galveston, Texas.

    • ANSWER:
A good stout 7 footer spooled wiht as much 20lb test you can fit and a nice spining reel are what i use when I am not using my fly rod. For reds, drifting live shrimp or small shad are a favorite and as far as lures go curly tailed grubs work pretty well as well as any bait fish pattern type stick bait. For mackrel make sure you use a steel leader as they are toothy little creatures who will shred mono in a heartbeat, back hooking small bait fiosh work well for them. Forget about the dep sea stuff, like I said a good stout spinning combo will work great. Flounder are ambush feeders mostly so running small minnos on the bottom wiht a flounder rig works pretty good and strips of squid will bring them to the cooler too. Mind your creel and size limits and Good Luck! Tight lines!

  3. QUESTION:
What are some good fishing lures/baits for the follow species?
As a fishing "greenhorn" , I am currently fishing in a brackish lake infested with tonnes of fish! Striped bass, gaspereau ( alewife) , salmon, speckle/rainbow/brown , perch, and flounder. There are no pike, walleye or lake trout in this lake. I am interested in knowing some good ideas for bait. So far I have : Nightcrawlers on a treble hook, rapala crank lures, power bait, synthetic and dead preserved minnows, powerbait dough and eggs (minimal success though) and Yum! crawfish. Any suggestions on what else I could use? I bought some rooster tails and meeps lures to try out, PS (i'm trying to lunk a big bass, as a world record bass was caught in this area before). I'd like to try wet flies with a weight on a spincast rod. Any suggestions? The area is North-Eastern Cape breton, Canada.

    • ANSWER:
Try a large jointed solid black jitterbug at midnight to 4 am

  4. QUESTION:

I need to know the Following

For Best Video would be most helpful to me.

here is where i fish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr3BzqMpVTk&feature=channel_page

    the area .

any ideas on how to get fluke flounder here Give me all tips.

    proper bait ?

Proper way to put the Bait on?

    how much depth?

    Lures Jigs ?

    and more..... Please tell...

    • ANSWER:
Where is the inlet you are talking about? A little more information, and I could make some suggestions. I've caught lots of flounder off jetty rocks, but not every situation calls for the same rig or bait. remember, flounder are bottom fish, so you need rig that keeps your bait close to the bottom, or something like a weighted feather if you don't use fresh bait.

Bridge Fishing in the Florida Keys

Forlast minutevisitor who has no intention of boating due to lack of time or money, sea sickness, fear of sunburn, orother obligations, fishing from the shore or a bridge is just for you! Grouper, snapper, sheepshead, permit, and even tarpon can be caught from the Florida keys bridges.

More than two dozen bridges accommodate fishers and sightseers alike. While some people fish, others watch pelicans, egrets, seagulls and osprey feed and preen just a few feet away,And it can be exciting when the person next to you hooks up with a silver king and the tarpon racesin and around the bridge.

Fishing from shore or wading with lures or bait can bring similar excitement, you might landa spectactular bonefish or a toothy and tough barracuda.

Fishingfrom a Florida Keys Bridge is also a greatway to get a panoramic view of the keys, relaxe and catchingsupper.

The tackle used for keys bridge fishing should be on the heavy side, remember this is a place you can catch a one pound snapper,or a 10 foot Hammerhead. So adjust your set-up s accordingly.

For bait, fresh shrimp is always good, all the tackle shops have plenty of shrimp. The best way, I have found to keep them alive, without the hassle ofmaintaining your bait bucket, is to layer them in newspaper and put them on ice, works great!

If the small fish, keep "stealing your bait", move around a little. The fishing areas they have set-up here are massive, you have nearly 100 miles to fish, from Key Largo to Key West.

The middle of the day is usually preaty warm and sunny,so early in the morning or at dusk or night time is a good time to fish,if you do fish during the day prepare. The sun beating of the concrete bridge is intense.

Either way you will enjoy. My wife and I have been driving down to our place in Ramrod KeyfromNew Englandfor over 20 yrs., and the beauty of the Keys still brings tears toour eyes

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What is the name of this type of fishing net?
Ok, let's say you walked out to the middle of a pier, bridge, or jetty to do some saltwater fishing. Now you are about 20-30 ft above water. So when you catch a large fish and you need to bring it up to where you are you cant just pull him up with the regular fishing line that you used to catch it right? So I see many people use this CIRCULAR NET ATTACHED TO A LONG ROPE. This net is lowered to the water level and once it has the fish, it is pulled back up with the fish inside. I can't find this net in any store or any website. But every time i go fishing I see hundreds of people with this mysterious but wonder full NET! Where on God's green earth did they get this net??? and what is it called???

    • ANSWER:
Its called a landing net. Most are only known for the smaller hand held size for stream and river fishing, but they carry the same name. Most used for saltwater fishing are mostly hand made by locals, and if you noticed the ones on the piers are tied to a piling so they don't walk off.

Some local tackle shops carry and or make these nets, but they are not typically found in big box stores like walmarts and dicks sports. Cabela's carries one named a Bridge/Pier Net, but trying to make your own might be easier than you think. Just ask a person you see one with if you can take a pic of theirs for a pattern.

  2. QUESTION:
What stretches from California to Japan across the Pacific Ocean?
    - Plastic rubbish
    - Bermuda triangle
    - Ultra thin fishing net
    - The world's longest bridge

    • ANSWER:
      The sky!!!!

  3. QUESTION:
    Crab Fishing.. in Northern California?
Anyone know any good spot to crab fish using a net??.. I do not own a boat.. and i'm tired of fishing at sausalito under the golden gate bridge in san francisco.Any good fishing area in Northern Cal would really help.. thanks

    • ANSWER:
For hooping, Fort Point pier, Muni Pier and Pier 7 in SF are good places for Red and Rock Crabs (dungeness are illegal to take within the Bay). It's best to be on a pier if you're using a net.

For dungeness, you can try your luck at Pacifica Pier, although it's better to use snares there (hoops can get snagged). If you're using a snare, Half Moon Bay and Bodega bay are also places to check out.

Don't forget you'll need a license if you're not at a public pier.

      Good luck.

  4. QUESTION:
Can someone help me with this Fishing problem?
I live in the small South Australian town of Murray Bridge, I am 15 and REALLY enjoy fishing, down at sturts reserve, preferable after school times around 5pm to 8pm, and 12am to 4am

At the moment we use two shrimp nets with soap, sinker, and two hooks, one with rubber bait, and one with either worms, shrimp, or prawns

Most of the time 60gram or so sinkers (I THINK)

It is possible to use a floater in them murray river in sturts reserve as well?

At the moment, all we get is dumb carp, maybe the occasional redfin, and RARELY a catfish

I would like a few tips to get atleast a few more RedFin, or Catfish

    Thanks for the help :D

    • ANSWER:
The common misconception that it has to stink to catch catfish isn't necessarily true. It's coincidence that some of the things catfish like happen to have unappealing scents to humans. Bloody is always good, a live bluegill with a cut down it's side, or bluegill cutbait, but if these things are fresh then the smell is not that bad, but with the cut bait it's by no means pleasant after an hour or two. So don't buy things because you think they stink, buy them because catfish think it smells good. i'm not from australia and i have never fished saltwater, (but i want too soon, i'm moving pretty close to the gulf of Mexico soon, but i digress...) and have know idea what a redfin is or how to catch them. hope this helped

  5. QUESTION:
    Do you like my story?
“Mam!” I screamed. “Are you alright?”
Mam’s scream was high pitched with agony. “Help! Please hurry, Katelyn!” My feet pounded the ground harder. I rounded the ruins and came up on the barn. The scream came again when I screeched to a halt.
“MAM!!” I cried. There was pure blood on the floor and all over Mam. She was also scarlet in color and sweat collected at the bridge of her nose.
    “Babe… Babe…” She stuttered.
“Mam, what is it?” I stared deeply into her eyes.
    “BABY!” She busted.
My eyes widened, like a baby calf’s . I hopped to my feet and ran again out into the cold air. I stopped on the cobble stone path and screamed “PA!” I was afraid my voice could not be heard over the howling wind, so again I turned on a loud voice, a voice a woman should NEVER use. “PA!!!” I saw Kevin’s head bob over the steep hill where I last saw pa. He ran the rest of the way up and grabbed my shoulders and shook, I was becoming hysterical.
“Katelyn! Calm yourself, you are going to get yourself a nasty beaten when Pa gets back!”
“Mam! Mam!” I repeated over and over.
“Ladies are better quiet!” He scolded. I gasped offended by the way he spoke to me. Seeing the horror in my face, and the hot tears, his face softened. “Oh, Katelyn…” I looked deep into his eyes and remembered Mam.
“Kevin! It’s Mam, she’s having a baby! We need to find Pa, quick!” I said feeling awkward by the way he looked at me. He looked shocked. We ran down to the ocean, the waves tiptoed along the shore. I looked at Kevin and his chest became big.
“PA!!!” He tried to scream over the never fading wind. Pa looked up from untangling the crabs from the fishing net. Pa heard the urgency in my brother’s voice and ran to the top of the steep hill.
“Where is Leslie?” he panicked. “Oh, no!” he cried seeing the fear in our eyes. He quickly ran to the barn where she had been tending the horses…

This is only the first draft. :D

    • ANSWER:
From what you have posted so far, your story seems to be an ordeal of witnessing of a 'live' child bear process. Well, you must be very young because your story doesn't say anything medical or adult terms. For the start, I did give you a C for grammar, C for story plot, B for trying hard and an A for the guts to publish it for people to comment! Keep it up, you might be a writer in the making!

Rapala Fishing Rods

 ... 7838324 - Three Husky HTP Rapala Fishing Rods - 5/8/2011 11:13:08 AM

Rapala Lures-Realistic Looks

Rapala lures are one of the most realistic looking lures you should buy. An ingenious fisherman made the first Rapala lures in the 1930s. After observing the habits of fish in the waters of Finland, he realized that big fish eat wounded little fish.

He created a lure that wiggled and wobbled in the water and he started catching more and more fish. And to this very day all Rapala lures that are made are hand tuned and water tested to make absolutely certain that they swim in perfect harmony right from the box. In actual fact no lure holds more records for the largest fish caught than Rapala lures.

These lures are made from Balsa wood , Balsa trees are found primarily in Central and South America. Rapala lures come in every form and dimensions imaginable and are terribly sturdy. Some styles are made to bounce off rocks, bump against the base of lakes and streams, and rip through thick weeds. Some styles will deliver an extraordinary distance in each cast.

And some are essentially designed with a sound chamber that broadcasts sound and vibration. Sound is understood to heighten curiosity in fish , so any sound combined with a wiggle will sound like a dinner bell to a fish. Rapala lures are made to tempt and torture fish so that a fish will have a particularly tough time not taking the bait.

Some of the lures come fitted with steel rust resistant hardware so they are going to keep and perform for a very long time in saltwater. Rapala lures are superb for ice fishing too. Rapala offers a lure which will swim in tantalizing circles straight in the middle of deep game fish. They also made a lure with a slow circle down action. Rapala lures have recorded a record for catching the largest fish on each continent in the world excepting Antarctica. It is hard to go wrong with Rapala lures! .

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
where can i get replacement parts for a rapala fishing rod that broke?

    • ANSWER:
You can probably buy a new one just as cheap as you could parts because they are probably a tad hard to find. Craigslist would be my first stop. Then any local places, bass pro, cabelas, gander mountina, etc. THEN I would consider Ebay. Best of luck

  2. QUESTION:
Can anyone tell me where to find the "TOP" portion of a rapala fishing rod?
The rod is 5'6 and the spec. number is (sn20sp56L2) thanks!!

    • ANSWER:
You only got one "answer" out of four replies. Doesn't say much for some of the schmucks wasting our time in here, does it? Obviously they don't care about how ridiculous and ignorant they make themselves look. Apparently they have little or no pride. Ah, well....

As for finding only half of a rod, no one stocks such a thing and your ONLY hope short of someone just happening to have a rod like it that they are willing to sell part or all of, is to go directly to the manufacturer like PD suggested. Depending on how old the rod is, they may not even make that model anymore. If they do, the cost of buying just half of one (they don't make just HALF) is pretty remote and they will most likely want to just sell you a whole new rod. The cost of that, PLUS the shipping, will be more than if you just went to a store in your own neighborhood and bought a new one. If money is that much of an option, consider just shopping at the discount stores like Wal-Mart, or seeing what you can find in a pawn shop or second hand store. Good luck in your search.

  3. QUESTION:
Rapala Fishing Frenzy--is the rod and reel controller necessary?
My stepdad wants a fishing game for the brand new Wii we got him for his birthday yesterday...the only one in town is the Rapala Fishing Frenzy, and there's two stores that have it-- 1 has the rod and reel controller, one doesn't.

What I'm asking is: is the rod and reel necessary to play the game, or is the regular controller all you need?

    Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
get the rod. i got it for my dad he loves it cuz it can cast it out and stuff virtually lol

  4. QUESTION:
How do I get to the next round in the PS2 Rapala fishing game?
I'm playing PS2 Rapala Pro Fishing game and am trying to get past the 2nd phase of the tournament. I have to catch two Salmon, but I have only been able to catch one. I am using the highest durability rod and a heavy weight line. The average weight of a Salmon in the game is 44lbs. I have the skill level set at Normal (not easy or hard).

Are there any cheats or tips to playing this game to get past the Salmon tournament phase?
kkil, I went to gamefaqs, but they don't have any information, tips, or boards for Rapala Pro Fishing. Thanks anyway.

    • ANSWER:
You can't beat going to www.gamefaqs.com hope that site helps. It always helps me. Happy gaming.

  5. QUESTION:
Fishing Pole Accessory for the Wii (Rapala)?
I recently purchased Rapala Fishing Frenzy for my Wii, but it didn't come with the fishing pole accessory.

Where do I go to buy the fishing rod accessory by itself?

I'm really hoping to find the one that comes with the Rapala games rather than a 3rd party item.

    • ANSWER:
the accessories are just a piece od plastic and nothing else. really, they do not enhance the feel or gameplay, they just make the controller heavier and awkward to use.

What Is Good Fishing Bait

Bass Fishing with Rattlesnake for Bait? | Wildlife Management ...

What Shouldi Use For Carp Fishing Bait This Winter.

Its a question I get asked quite a lot in the shop, along with should I still be using fishmeals? Well there is no rule or definition of what you should and shouldnt use at this time of year. However, bait can make a big difference to what you catch at this time of year.

A lot of people will stick with the fishmeal based boilies they use all year round as it is a) what they are used to, and b) the fish have seen it. In my opinion it is not good for the fish at this time of year, The very nature of fishmeal boilies mean they are incredibly rich in oils and because of this the fish and water find it very hard to break them down. This means for the fish they are not getting the nutrients that they need from the carp fishing bait you are using.
Look at it this way, when you have a massive steak you end up feeling bloated and thinking maybe I should have left a bit but it was quite nice, you might end up waking up in the morning with indigestion.. This is similar to how a fish might feel after eating a fishmeal boilie. Because of the temperature the fishs digestive system finds it harder to break down and get the goodness it needs.

Now on the subject of boilies and other good carp fishing bait, there are several products on the market that are designed specifically for the time of year. Take for example the DT cold water Green Beast, here is a flavour that has proven a winner no matter how cold it gets, the reason for it is that it has all the nutrients, fats and carbs that a fish needs to live on, but at the same time breaks down easily in the cold water. The breakdown time of a bait in winter is crucial and because of this fishmeals are pretty much a no no for this time of year. Its basically due to the oil contents of the bait. What makes a good bait in summer is exactly the reason it makes a bad bait in winter.

By introducing a good winter bait, whether it be a top quality bait like DTs cold water or a birdfood bait you increase the fishs appetites. Look at it from a human perspective, would you go without eating for a few months while everything around you that you were used to eating suddenly disappears? I didnt think so.

Another winner at this time of year is plastic baits and pop ups. Fish feed by attraction but they also feed by sight! A piece of pop up corn or a hi viz popup may just entice that curiosity take at this time of year. Why? Well basically because the fish have farmed all the natural food in the lake and will become curious of foreign objects, no matter who out of place they may look!

So when choosing your carp fishing bait this year, have a look around instead of picking up your usual bag of boilies as you might just increase your chance of bagging that fish you might otherwise miss! A good quality winter bait will become its own food source and when a good food source is lacking for them it means they will be relying on your bait!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
A good fishing bait in fresh water?
I've been trying to catch a fish for years now, and haven't had any luck. I can do some spinner fishing, but I prefer bait fishing because of its slow pace. In my area, the major fish species are trout, sometimes some carp, and bass- there are a few others, but I've never seen them. I tried worms once, and I nearly caught a rather large fish. I never caught anything else. What good baits are there?

    • ANSWER:
Would be nice to know what your area is. Different areas use different baits. Trout and Bass love crickets, but they may not be legal in your area. Float'em near banks, downed trees, brush and overhangs. Small frogs/toads, baby Catfish and Blue-Belly Lizards also work for Bass, but again may not be legal where you are, but check. Worse case, silver colored feeder Goldfish are a sure catch when you nose hook the bait and "Flyline" the bait.

Carp love corn kernels and chicken livers. For large Cats, use stinky baits like frozen Anchovies or Sardines. I use all of these things where I fish and have pics to prove they all work.

  2. QUESTION:
What is a good fishing bait for big species from the beach (UK)?
Just getting back into sea fishing. The main species i'm after is cod, ray, tope and maybe conger. Will be fishing quite rocky marks at night and could do with some tips from some experienced people on bait, tide, time etc. Thanks in advance

    • ANSWER:
For the Ray and Tope I would suggest Sandeel, cut off the head thread around the bend of your hook and tie in place with shearing / bait elastic , or trap with the second hook of a pennel rig.
Cod , Lug worm ( my preferance is for black lug ) 4 or 6 threaded up the trace is good, maybe fished as a cocktail with Squid.
Conger , Live or dead fresh Pouting,a whole Mackerel fillet or a whole Squid. The Pouting also gives you a good chance of a nice Bass.

  3. QUESTION:
what is good fishing bait i can find in my pantry?
ok, i wanna go fishing in my lake that is in my backyard but i want to catch bass, what can i use that is in my pantry? because im tired of using night crawlers or you can tell me another type of house hold bait.

    thank you

    • ANSWER:
I have caught fish with bacon strips. Try it.

  4. QUESTION:
What is some good fishing bait?
What is some good fishing bait most likely already in your house besides corn?

    • ANSWER:
Believe it or not, white bread is perfect. It's cheap, you always have it in the house and fish love it! There's no need to go digging up worms when you've got bread right inside!

  5. QUESTION:
good fishing bait? meal worms? (answer asap as im fishing in 20mins in a competition)?
are meal worms a good fishing bait to use?
and what fish will they attract?

also what r sum ova good baits to use?

    • ANSWER:
Depends what fish you are after.
      Maggots - nearly anything
      Worms - same as
      Bread - chub, trout, carp
      pellets - carp, trout
Hope thats given you some ideas.
