Plastic Fishing Baits
Use Plastic Worms to Catch Bass
Anyone that does any amount of fishing has had to learn how to use plastic worms to catch bass. It doesn't matter if you are fishing for large or smallmouth bass worms work extremely well. They are most anglers primary bait and every anglers fall back if their favorite is not working. They are simple to use and come in many varieties.
Because there are so many varieties the choices can be confusing and you will have to experiment some in the waters you fish to actually find out works best. However there are some general guidelines on how to choose which color and size to use.
Fluorescent colors retain their color in deep waters whereas other colors turn a shade of grey. Color can be something to consider after you find the bass. If they're following the lure, tapping it, or just not hitting it and you tried different presentations, try a different color of the same lure. In general, use dark colors in water with little light penetration such as muddy or stained water, and cloudy or windy days. And use light colors in water with more light penetration - i.e. clear water, sunny or calm days, etc. Use natural colors. Big bass learn from being caught not to resort to their curiosity to react to everything unnatural. That's why natural looking baits produce bigger bass.
There are many opinions about what size to use and again you will have to experiment in your local waters to find out what works best in your waters. As a general rule use 6-7 inch worms for big bass and 4 inch at all other times. Do not take this as a hard and fast rule as I fish the 4 inch worm with a lot of success catching both average and large bass.

QUESTION:
How long do plastic fishing baits last?

ANSWER:
I have a bunch of six-inch straight-tailed California Worms soft plastics that are well over twenty years old... they're still catching fish.

QUESTION:
do plastic baits dry out or get old if not keep in a zip seal bag?
Do you have to keep plastic fishing baits in some type of sealed bag to keep them fresh, how long will it take them to go 'bad' if keep in a normal plastic tackle box?-
ANSWER:
I've never had them dry out, but I wouldn't advise just leaving them loose in your tackle box. The solvents used in some soft plastic baits can dissolve the plastic in your tackle box over time, and if you put it away for the winter with your baits loose in the trays, you may find them welded to the trays when you take it out again in the spring.

What Fishing Line To Use

Largemouth Bass Fishing Techniques - What Is The Best Knot To Use?
There is a ton of information available on line about largemouth bass fishing techniques. However, one of the most important and forgotten techniques that is often not discussed is what is the best knot to use? There are hundreds of knots that can be used to tie your lure onto the end of your line, but which one is the best? You can have the best line and the best lure in the world, however, if you do not tie your lure on correctly you could end up loosing it to that trophy bass you have been waiting for, or one of those unseen snags that are commonly encountered when you are out fishing.
In my opinion, the palomar knot is the best knot to use when tying on your favorite bass fishing lure. It is one of the simplest knots to tie and it is one of the strongest knots that can be used. It can be used on virtually any line that is available on the market today. Ask any professional bass fisherman what knot they use most of the time and I would be willing to bet that most of them would say that they use the palomar knot. In fact, I was recently at a bass fishing seminar where knots were a topic of discussion. The speaker was a well known professional bass fisherman. What he said was "you should only use one knot when fishing in a bass tournament." Do you know what that one knot was that he recommended? Yep, you guessed it, the palomar knot.
Learn to tie the palomar knot. Not only will it save you time, but it will save you a lot of frustration and, perhaps, a lost trophy fish or expensive lure.

I really like fishing for largemouth bass with a spinning reel in ponds. But it is running out of line so i need new line! I would like to use Spider wire, but what type? do you have any suggestions?-

QUESTION:
What is the smallest size fly this fly fishing line use?
I am a beginner in fly fishing and am looking for my first rod, I think i can found a good one but I want to catch panfish and am wondering what is the smallest fly a 230 grain line (it is in a outfit, http://www.reelflyrod.com/product.sc?productId=1032&categoryId=133) and I am worried that the smallest flies it can use would be too small for some fish's mouths and that would be kind of a waste of money.-
ANSWER:
Read up on Fly Fishing and watch a couple of You Tube videos. Your line weight is not a really big deal when casting a lure. Only the real heavy 'Bass Bugs' become a problem when casting if you have to light of a rod & line. What your tying your fly/lure to is the leader or tippet not the fly line.
I have run into some really small dry flies #16 or less that I have a hard time getting a good hook set on a strike. I've lost some really beautiful Trout while they were dancing on the water with small dry flies. But on some days that all they touch.

Sea Fishing Tackle - Storage Solutions for Live Bait
Keeping bait alive is a challenge in itself. If trying to catch a fish is enough you got to keep your bait alive and in tip top condition too! There are ways to help keep you bait alive. I will go through the basics of some of the most popular baits used and how you can keep it alive with the minimum of casualty's and fuss.
Sandeels
Live Sandeel is probably the deadliest bait known to sea angling in British waters, presented as a freelined bait, fished under a float or legered on a long leader, they will catch just about all of our major sporting species including Bass. There are two factors in keeping sand eel alive for any period of time. One is oxygenation and two is Temperature. Sandeels sitting in stagnant water all day is doomed and is not going to last you more than 1 hour. You need to provide fresh supply's of oxygen via a bait air pump and a suitable container to keep them out of the sun. Water in small quantities left in the summer heat can quickly rise cooking you Sandeels. A good solution to this is a bait bucket, I highly recommend the Salt Bucket by Shakespeare not only it comes with a built in pouch for your pump but it also has a zip up lid to stop your eels jumping out and to keep the sun exposure from heating your water. If that's not all, you are also able to collapse it and wash it out with ease.
If you want to store Sandeels for any long period of time, you need to set up a tank at home which you have had cycling for at least 4 weeks. Cycling meaning allowing the tank to go through the nitrogen cycle. When there are no traces of Ammonia left by using a saltwater test kit at your local aquatic center it is then safe to introduce you eels. This cycling process is exactly the same as if you where setting up tropical or marine fish tank.
Fitted to your tank you will need a filter pump that can circulate you tanks volume by at least 4 times an hour as a rule and some suitable saltwater rocks for the bacteria to colonise. Also you will need an air pump connected to an air stone running 24/7 this is beneficial to your Sandeels and the bacteria in your setup. Remember to change 25% of your sea water every 2 weeks, this stops the build up of Nitrates which will kill your Sandeels.
A good food for your Sandeels is Live Plankton cultures which you can buy live from all good marine aquatic shops. If not Mysis is very good too! Any eels that do die freeze down in packs and use when you wish do not allow dead Sandeels to float around your tank as this will kill off the live ones.
Peeler Crab
You can keep peelers for long periods of time by using the same method above. However most of us will place the peeler crabs in an Ice Cream tub and cover with seaweed and place into the fridge until ready to use. A great way of storing them when fishing is to place them into a bait cool bag damp! this will keep them out of the sun and elements until ready to use. Anyfish Anywhere Bait bag is a good recommended sized bag for the job. If you need to bring your crabs on further into the peeling stage bring them out of the fridge and allow them to warm up to room temperature and place them in a 1.5cm of water in a tray to allow them to drink.
Prawns
Most of us collect live prawns when fishing for rays. Prawns can be difficult to keep for any long length of time. Using a Salt Bucket again is the way to keep them. On a hot day they would last an hour or two with ice packs placed inside the bucket. If you have an air pump in there aswell they will last a full day. The key is to keep changing the water every 2 hours and keep cool as the water clouds with their own "bodily functions" and this can kill them very quickly.
Ragworm/Lugworm
Favourite amongst anglers! Best kept in a tray with 1/4" of seawater. Place in a bait fridge. If they are healthy they will wriggle like mad when put in the water. Need to change the water every day or two with fresh collected saltwater. For just a few days dampen some newspaper with collected saltwater and wrap up the worms in 5's or 10's and keep in the fridge until ready to use. Another good way is to get some Vermiculite you can get a bag load of it from a local garden centre. Put the worms in a sealed Rag and Lug Tub with air holes and a small handful of Vermiculite. Spray the worms with saltwater just to keep damp not soaking and place in the fridge. It is important to remove any dead worms if any daily as this will kill all of your worms due to toxins leaching out from the decomposing worm.

A Fishing Rod for the Grandson?
A woman goes into a Fishing Tackle shop to buy a rod and reel for her
Grandson's birthday.
She doesn't know which one to get, so she just grabs one and
goes over to the counter. The salesman is standing
there, wearing dark shades. She says, "Excuse me, can you tell
me anything about this rod and reel?" He says, "Madam, I'm
completely blind; but, if you'll drop it on the counter, I can
tell you everything you need to know about it from the sound it
makes." She doesn't believe him but drops it on the counter
anyway. He says, "That's a six-foot Shakespeare graphite rod
with a Zebco 404 reel and 10-lb.test line. It's a good all
around combination, and it's on sale this week for £44.00 ."
She says, "It's amazing that you can tell all that just by the
sound of It dropping on the counter. I'll take it!" As she opens
her purse, her credit card drops on the floor. "Oh, that sounds
like a Visa card," he says. As the lady bends down to pick up
the card, she accidentally farts. At first, she is really
embarrassed but then realizes there is no way the blind salesman
heard that and says, "That'll be 58 pounds and 50 pence please."
The woman is totally confused by this and asks, "Didn't you tell
me it was on sale for £44.00 ? How did you get it to £58.50 ?"
He replies, "Yes Madam, the rod and reel is £44.00, but the Duck
Caller is £11.00 and the Fish Bait is £3.50 !!"-

That was sooo funny!!! Here's one for you:A little girl asks her mum, "Mum, can I take the dog for a walk around the block?"
Her mum replies "No, because she is in heat."
"What does that mean?" asked the child.
"Go and ask your father. I think he's in the garage."
The little girl goes out to the garage and says, "Dad, can I take Lulu for a walk around the block? I asked Mum, but she said the dog was in heat, and to come ask you."
He took a rag, soaked it in petrol, and scrubbed the dog's backside with it to disguise the scent, and said "Ok, you can go now, but keep Lulu on the leash and only go one time around the block."
The little girl left and returned a few minutes later with no dog on the leash.
Surprised, Dad asked, "Where's Lulu? The little girl said, "She ran out of petrol about halfway round the block, so another dog is pushing her home."

QUESTION:
help with choosing the right fishing equipment?
i am soon going to upgrade all of my cheap fishing supplies and get a little more serious about fishing. I need supplies that work in both murky ponds and crystal clear streams. I am pretty much starting from scratch, so I will need a new rod, reel, tackle box, tackle, and fishing line.
I want a spinning rod and reel. My maximum price is . Right now, my sights are on the Pflueger trion gx-7 reel and the shakespeare ugly stik classic spinning rod. please recommend your favorites considering my circumstances.
I also need a good sized tackle box (but not gigantic) that has room for many shads, other artificials, waterproof, and plenty of room in the bottom for the bigger stuff.
I have my ideas for tackle, but no idea on the fishing line. I want something strong and exceptionally invisible in both clear and murky water.
please take your time and answer these intelligently.
thank you
i am going to fish for mostly bass, trout, and some catfish; with some crappy and bluegill mixed in.-
ANSWER:
First- Thumbs UP to Artie and Ultimate. (I'd like to thank Artie for helping to establish what species of fish your targeting. And I'd like to give Kudos to Ultimate for suggesting Fluorocarbon line.)2nd- Reel- The Pflueger Trion would be an excellent choice, (esp for your price point). Here is a link to BPS where you can view reviews for the Trion. 78 people give the Trion a 4.6 out of 5- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_58697____SearchResults
3rd- Rod- If you are MAINLY targeting Bass & Trout then I suggest you also look at the Berkley Lightning Rod. Lightning Rods are 3 times more "sensitive", have a better warranty than Ugly Stik, and are in the same price range. Sensitivity is a MAJOR factor in Bass and Trout fishing. Sensitivity ties into the "weight" of the rod. A good idea is to go to your local Walmart/ local Bait & Tackle and put BOTH rods in your hand at the same time. You will notice a vast difference in weight between the two. A compromise between the Lightning Rod and the Ugly Stik is the Ugly Stik Lite shown here- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_16669____SearchResults
Lightning Rod- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_89130____SearchResults
A regular "Classic" Ugly would be more suited to Catfish and Carp or any fish where you don't really need to FEEL the strike.
In any case, whatever rod you decide to purchase it should be a Medium action 6'6" or 7'. (The 7' would be my personal choice. A longer rod helps you subdue larger fish easier by using "leverage".)
4th- Ultimate is correct. Fluorocarbon line is the only "invisible line" available at this time. (Fluorocarbon has the same refractive index as water making it virtually invisible.) Personally, I only use Berkley Vanish as leader material but you may have luck with it as your Main-line. Look at P-line Fluro. It has a better reputation.......Braid is another option. Braided line is extremely strong VS it's diameter, BUT, it generally has poor "abrasion resistance". Abrasion resistance is very important in heavy structure and weedy environments. Your "best bet" would be a combo of the two- 6/20 Power Braid and a 12-14LB fluro leader.
As a beginner fisherman I would purchase the size Tackle box I thought I could "grow into". They sell pre-made soft-sided boxes at various different super-stores. GO to the store and pick one in your price range.
Here is an example of a decent soft-sided T-box- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_97864____SearchResults
Hope this extra info helps ya? Good luck.

QUESTION:
In your opinion what is the best bass fishing bait for spring fishing?
Whats the best and why.-
ANSWER:
My opinion is soft plastics. Throw them around the spawning bass when they're bedding and they cream these things. Also, if you go in the pre-spawn, the fish are still a little lethargic as they are coming out of near-dormancy during the winter, so a soft plastic crawled or jigged slowly has done well for me. I've done well with chartreuse lizards, senkos, and coffee tubes. You also can't go wrong with a Rapala husky jerk or X-Rap. Their suspending action makes them very effective in colder pre-spawn waters.

QUESTION:
What is your favorite plastic bait for bass fishing?
Also, what areas of a lake or pond should i fish in the evening. Is fishing off a small dock good for bass?-
ANSWER:
Don't over complicate things on small bodies of water.I'd grab a half dozen 1/8oz, half dozen #2 or 3 hooks, a bag of 6" Red Shad worms, and a pair of plyers and keep them all in one of my pants pockets. You can fish all day like that.
Hopefully the pond will be away from wood, weeds, and anything other thing that prevents you from fishing a sizable portion of the lake.
Just spend a few hours and fish your way around the lake. Make a few throws into some grass, then around some logs, etc. Normally if it looks like a place a fish will be, there will be one there. If you catch a fish, throw it right back into the same spot and really work the area. It's not uncommon to catch a half dozen bass right in the same spot.
Just go and "play around"

QUESTION:
What is a good all round bass fishing bait casting reel? I need an experts opinion?-
ANSWER:
Generally, any reel you find for 100 bucks and up is going to be a very good reel. Without knowing what you fish for and what not, it's a little hard to reccomend a specific reel.As I always suggest on here to people, check out Abu Garcia and Quantum reels. These are both very reputable companies that make excellent quality products. I've always had great luck with Abu Garcia. They're top of the line reel at the moment is the Revo. There's a few different Revo series, all are very nice. As for Quantum, I don't currently have any of their reels but I have used them a lot in the past. Again, I've been very happy with them. They have a few Kevin Van Dam series reels, which I believe is their best quality reel at the moment. I bought my Dad one of these a while back and had to use it a bit before hand lol. It was one of the smothest reels that I have ever used, possibly even smoother than the Revos. Regardless, you'll be very happy if you choose one of these reels.
Edit: I'll also add that you don't have to spend 100+ bucks for a decent reel. You can do a bit of research and look around and find pretty solid reels for 70 or so dollars, maybe even cheaper if you happen to find one on sale. For the best baitcasting reels, you will be looking at 100+ dollars.

Fishing Hook Sizing Chart

What Catfish Fishing Hook Do You Choose?
Fishing for catfish can be one of the most exciting types of fishing you can do, but there really are some monster cats out there, so knowing how to select the right catfish hooks for the job is of major importance.
Depending on where you plan to fish, and whether you are out to catch basic table cats or huge monster cat, you will want to adjust the type of hook you plan to use. The good news is that there are some outstanding quality products available to help you nail the catfish you are after.
Keep an assortment with you while fishing, so you can change out the hooks to better fit the size of fish you are getting.
If you are fishing for table fish, and having a problem with the catfish taking your bait, running with it for a short distance before just simply dropping the bait, you might want to switch to a smaller hook like a 1/0 baitholder. This usually hangs in there a bit better, and will help you bring some table fare to the table for dinner. Of course, it is not as effective when you want to catch really big catfish.
If you are in a position where you need to cast out a long distance, you can always use a 2/0 octopus. This hook will work very well with a balsa wood and lead float called a Livingston Float. When you cast with this rig, it will really get out there! So, for casting long distances, try the 2/0 octopus.
When it comes to winter fishing for catfish, you really can get better results using smaller hooks too. Even when you are trying to catch big fish. Especially in the winter, when the water is cold and calm, the catfish tend to be finicky, and you have to try to get them out of the water without spooking them.
If you use anything bigger than a 2/0 hook, you will probably get bites, but the tendency is for the cat to spook and drop your hook like it was hot! This is particularly true in heavily fished waters, so no matter where you are fishing...lakes, rivers, ponds, etc. when getting bites is not the problem, just remember that you can always substitute a smaller, strong hook, and probably solve the problem.
In the springtime, when the fish are not so finicky, you can move up to some bigger hooks like a 6/0 baitholder hook. These are particularly good when there are flood water kinds of conditions present. During flood conditions, the fish tend to get very aggressive, and they really grab on to basically whatever is out there. You will miss some fish you could catch if you use the smaller hooks in flood conditions.
Another consideration is using the right size hook for whatever bait you are using. Generally speaking, bigger bait catches bigger fish; smaller bait catches smaller fish. The best hook, in my opinion, for catching catfish using shad head for bait is a 1/0 or 2/0 L042. For general use, you will most likely be satisfied with a 3/0 baitholder. While others will work well, it is best to consider this first.

QUESTION:
Does anyone know where a fish hook size comparison chart could be obtained?
They used to have them in catalogues, but no more. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx in advance.-
ANSWER:
http://www.snlcorp.com/Webpages/e_c_stock_hooks.htm
(Look at the type hook you would like to use, then click on the link for the "CHART" in that box)http://www.bobberstop.com/baithooksizes.html
I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for, as in what types of hooks, so I included one comparison...and one that explains how hook size is determined.
(Of course, from one brand to another...hook size can vary. eg. a gami single egg hook #10 is the same size as a Daiichi #8....)

QUESTION:
fishing gear guide, on paper?
i was in sports authority today, and in the fishing section on the counter there was a piece of paper that showed different fish, and it was a chart like format and had what type/size fishing poles to use for that specific fish, it also had the type of bait, what type of hooks, and some other stuff, like inshore or offshore. and it wasn't for sale. does anyone know of a website or someplace they sell something like that? cause i could REALLY use one.-
ANSWER:
Ask if you can get a copy of that chart, or take something to write with and write it down. I've never seen one but it sounds interesting.

Fishing Glass Floats

Jug Fishing for Cats
Of all of the numerous tried and true methods for hauling in a big catfish, jug fishing, or "juggin'" is one of the most popular among seasoned catfishermen. Jug fishing's simple approach and high return, combined with the low cost of the materials needed to make a jug fishing rig, make it popular among a great many anglers everywhere, both for sport, and for commercial fisheries, too. Jug fishing's main advantage is that it can be carried on, unattended, leaving the fisherman free to set more jug lines, or tend the ones that are taking fish. Also, free-floating jugs can cover a great deal of water area. As a result, jug fishing is usually highly productive, and a great way for families or groups to engage in catfishing, especially if kids or beginners are involved.
Jug fishing is best practiced in mild-current rivers, and pond or lake conditions, as too fast of a current will take the jugs away quickly, making their retrieval difficult.
The basic strategy of jug fishing is simple - set up a series of jug fishing rigs, float them out over a wide area of water, possibly with different baits, slung at different depths, and see what comes calling. Then, after you get a bite, if you're really keen, you can bring in the non-producing jug rigs, and re-set them with the successful bait and depth combination, which will then keep you very busy hauling in fish.
Building a jug fishing rig is simple. To make one, you will need some sort of powerful float (the jug), a length of heavy trot line, a couple of hooks, a weight, and your favourite bait.
First, a word on jugs. As the name implies, the original floats used in this technique were, and often still are, empty jugs of some description. Pop bottles, bleach bottles, or any empty, sealed container will do. Plastic containers are best, due to lower weight and greater durability than glass.
Commercially manufactured products are also available for jug fishing, many of which are smaller, lighter and easier to manage than the conventional standbys. Admittedly, 20 bleach bottles in your boat takes up a lot of space. It should be noted, too, that many jurisdictions have regulations on the types of fish than can be jugfished for, the design of the rig, and the color of the jug - usually, white is the rule. Check your local regs, though, before setting out on a jug fishing expedition, or any fishing trip, to make certain you are fishing legally.
To build the rig, you will need to make a couple of decisions regarding the length of the jug line. Ideally, you want the jug line to float freely, but the deepest end of the rig should be close to the bottom, maybe two to three feet above it. If you don't know how long to run your lines, try making a few of different lengths, and setting them out across your fishing area - some will get more attention than others. Having decided on the length of the lines to run, cut your jug lines accordingly. Fasten one end of a line to the neck of the jug, or to the fastening point, on a commercial product. On the other end, tie a reasonable weight, enough to keep the line down, but not so much that it overly tensions the line, or over-weights the jug.
Now, tie two hooks on each jug line, one, about a foot or two above the weight, and one, maybe six feet above the weight - Palomar knots work well for this. This system puts two hooks in the water, lays twice the bait out, and sets baits at differing depths, to cover as many bases as possible. Further, if the line floats into shallower water, while the sinker and one bait may end up out of commission, the higher hook will usually still be in a position to get a bite.

Fishing Net Making Supplies

Carp Fishing Rods: How Do You Choose Which Carp Rods Are Best For You?
Carp RodsCarp fishing rods that have crossed my path so far have been from Abu Garcia, Masterline, Chub, Rod Hutchinson, John Wilson and Century. All of these rods have treated me well and I would feel comfortable endorsing any one of them. If I had to choose it would be my old faithful Century carp rods but I love the new Chub rods even if they are a bit stiff. The John Wilson's aren't bad either, but can be a bit pricey. If it is a difficult decision for you, i'm not surprised with the manufacturers claiming Carbon this, Kevlar that. If you are indeed in need of help then ask some people that are carp fishing local to you,, most carp guys will be psyched to talk about what rods they are using!Your Carp Fishing Rod's ActionThere are two main types of rod action that you will see in carp fishing rods. Rods that bend at the tip are called either fast action or tip action rods. Fast action are better for casting over long distances. The down side is that they are not so good for playing the fish. Now if you don't have to cast long range then a through action rod is recommended. Through action rods will bend throughout the length of the rod and this will make playing the fish a nicer experience. This will give you a better chance of successfully setting the hook on the carp. The through action is the most versatile so as a rule of thumb you may want to pick this action unless you KNOW that you need to cast longer distances. What is the Correct Carp Rod Length?A 12ft carp rod is usually a good choice for the average carp fisherman. This will handle most fishing scenarios and is a good choice if you are doing a number of types of fishing. If you need to cast extreme distances though, then you can go for a 13 foot rod. When you are margin and/or floater fishing, an 11 foot rod is going to be your best bet. Although, if you will be stalking, then I would advise you to use a 10 footer. These are the best for skulking through the brush. The correct rod length for you really depends on the type of carp fishing that you will be doing. If you stick within the parameters that we just set out though, you should be able to get the right length for yourself.Carp Fishing Rod MaterialsCarbon fiber is the standard material for manufacturing carp fishing rods. More often than not, the more money you spend on the rod the higher quality the carbon fiber will be. Some of the more expensive carp rods also employ a carbon Kevlar material which strengthens the rod and makes it more resistant to breaking. When Kevlar is used, the rods will become much more rigid and this makes it much more difficult if you like to play your carp. When using stiffer rods like this I have had several times when I bumped the carp because there was no finesse. I dont recommend taking the Kevlar route unless you know that you are going to be dealing with some really big carp.Determining the Test Curve of a Carp Fishing RodThe carp fishing rod's test curve is a crucial factor that you should pay attention to when choosing the right rod for you. The amount of weight you will be able to cast is in direct proportion to the test curve of the rod. If the test curve is too high though you are more likely to knock the fish off of the hook when you are luring them in. So balance is needed and determing what that balance is depends on what type of fishing you are doing exactly. If you think you will be doing close to medium range fishing, 2.25lb (2 1/4lb) test curve and 2.75lb (2 3/4lb) test curve are perfect. Carp fishing rods in this range are softer when trying to play the fish, but remember that you can't cast as far.How Do You Choose The Right Rod?Drennan, Normark, Abu Garcia, Daiwa, Shimano, JRC, TFG (Matt Hayes) , Prologic, E.S.P. , Wychwood, Masterline, Rod Hutchinson, Fox, Chub, Fladen, Ron Thompson, Greys, Harrison, John Wilson, Shakespeare, Grauvell.Of all of these, how do you decide which is best? In my opinion all of the above carp fishing rod manufacturers are solid and produce a good product. First determine what type of fishing you are going to be doing, and then understand your budget. Once you've done this, any of the above choices that matches your needs will be a winner.

QUESTION:
Wilderness Survival Stimulation?
Well I have heard about survival stimulation to test the edurance, improve strength as a friends, and just to pick up what it would be like to survive in the wild. I plan on trying this with about 4 to 9 other people. Everyone that might consider playing it between the ages 10 and 14. So do you know of a website that might tell me how we could play a survival stimulation. We have quite a few acres of woods and fields. We also have 2 Ponds and a stream in the woods. Okay a couple Questions:
1. Should we divide everyone into teams and should they be girl/ boy teams. How should we divide teams evenly like with strength, age, and gender. If we had teams should there be a leader for each team.
2. Should we have challanges like who-ever caught the first fish without a reel-an-rod or cast net should be rewarded fishing supplies.
3. Should we start off with packages with a little supply of equipment we may need like a axe or lighter?
4. How could we make this survival stimulation more enhanced.
5.Do you have a website that I could learn about how to build types of shelters, what foods you could and couldn't eat. What about a site that is about a wilderness survival stimulation.
Help! First to answer all question with reasonable answer gets the 10 pts. for best answer.
Oh... yeah we will be near parents.... about a half a mile away... just woods sort of near our houses.... and there are trails throughout the woods....-
ANSWER:
The best thing you could is watch all the series from Man vs. Wild and Survivorman. I learned a lot.You pick up facts like yucca wood has the lowest ignition temperature of any wood. How to determine North by tracking a the shadow by placing sticks on a ground. How to catch fish with a rod made out of a tree or even make a raft. How to avoid eating posionous plants and mushrooms (actually maybe you want to do that, LOL). How to catch animals and set snares for food. It goes on forever.
I wouldn't break up into boy/gril as I assume most people would like to meet more of the opposite sex. You probably want age to be evenly dispersed as well.
Challenges would be perfect. The reward be like a candy bar as the rest of everyone else is starving.
You really should buy a flint stone (not a lighter) as it won't run out of fuel. Just bring a knife and you probably start a fire in the wet Amazon.
To enhance it, don't bring much else the flint and knife. I people start starving, I'm assuming you can always go home easily in an emergency. Maybe should have everyone leave their cell phones and MP3 players at home except for the leader just in case their really is an emergency, but only for that reason because the point is bonding and not playing solitaire or talking to other friends.

QUESTION:
I think I saw a ferral child.... should I report it.?
Hay all, I am a 37 year old park Ranger living in (blank) Tennessee. It's a rare thing in this day and age, a true Appalachian community, with hard working farmers and one gas station, two red lights, no walmart, and only two restraunts. My friend reuns a canoe rental place, and there are to this day Mountain people who live in the hills in a pre-welfare state... many isolated save for immidiate family and a few friends. In recent years, many people have moved away, drifting out of the area, but to a large degree many still live as thier forefathers did, in some cases without even electricity. Some live "off road" (as in, off any road) so that the only way to get to thier houses is by the river, or a long walk through the woods. In my time here, I've become good friends with many of them, and took quickly to living among them in my three room trailor, unoccupied before I moved in. I have become familiar with many cases of people living "unconnected", but was not, until recently, familiar with anyone living almost entirly independantly... to the point of perhaps having grown up alone after a young age.
To make a long story short, I went out into my back yard last night to let my dogs, Shep and Buddy, out to pea. Shep took after what I thought was a rabbit, until I heard dogs fighting, and knew it was a wolf. Thinking of Shep, I got my revolver and ran out into the yard half naked. What I saw next shoook me to the core. By my shed, crouched behind the open door, was a boy perhaps 12 to 14, starkly thin and muscled, wearing nothing but what looked like a long, tattered over coat, tied with some rope. His hair was long, and his eyes sharp, examining me only as a animal would, to seek the best chance for escape. He seemed to know what my gun was, since he took off. I remeber that his legs were scared.Freaked out, I went inside and tried to relax. This boy may have been a run away, perhaps a common thief. But wy would he be barefoot this time of year? And seemingly without any pants?
I thought for a long time. It was the oddest night of my life, as I couldn't decide what to do next, or even what I had seen. Was he in the shed to steal survival tools. Was he on his own, or with the wolves he had fled with? Was it possioble he was like the mountain men I'd encountered two or three times, living on his own, and had some how lost all supplies. This didn't seem to add up.
Mountain men were a wild sight, but they were usually dressed in some kind of fashion, and never barefoot. And this was just a boy.The next day I discovered some of my supplies were missing. A fish net, some blankets, along with half the things in my tackle box. Whoever this kid was, he knew how to fish.... That means he must have had some contact with humans. The next night, I set some long pants blue jean pants and old boots out past the clearing in the yard, and though they were there for week, I cam e home one day to find them gone. SInce then, I've seen him twice, wearing the pants I gave him, and he seems to be somewhat comfortable with me at a distance. Still, when I call to him, he runs off.
What is this?
I've been reading some of your comments. Im a talented writer, but didn't make this up.-
ANSWER:
You have a long way to go before publishing this work of fiction.

QUESTION:
How do i fix this writing and make it better, more publishable?
I grinned as I walked to the car lugging my three large duffle bags, my mum laughed, she had already told me I had too much stuff with me, when she had seen me packing she'd rolled her eyes and reminded me I was only going away for half a month- and to Maine. Not Barcelona or Russia so to put away all of my stuff. My youngest brother had reminded me that I was not going alone- so to put away the survival and first aid kits, my sister had reminded me to pack something nice, tight and short, along with numerous overpriced perfumes, a good bit of makeup and a razor, I pouted theatrically but laughed and tossed in all the cosmetics and beautification products I had accumulated over the years, courtesy of their "generosity" into my bag of toiletries- which courtesy of my eldest brother's ignorance was way over proportioned, a fact which for the first time I was resentful of. My twin brother, Eric and my older brother Jeremy who were coming with me reminded me to bring food, tents, rope, sleeping bags, and bed sheets. I laughed but didn't object when they added to my packages.
So now I was the only one with three bags, and even then all of the cloth was in vacuum bags. Jeremy walked past me, and in one fluid motion took all my bags and threw them at Eric, who was arranging everything in the back of our Cousin Jamie’s truck. Jamie came at me from around and wrapped me up in a bear hug, my face was immersed in his rolling muscles so I didn't see the bags hit Eric, but I heard a heavy metallic thud and his furious, rather obscene exclamation.
As soon as all the bags were in the back our youngest brother Ingo came rushing out of the house carrying all of my survival kits, fishing net, his walkie talkies, and a knife. Jamie arched an eyebrow. "I thought you maybe would need this because you're a girl," Conner explained
"What girl uses a knife?"
"If she can beat Jeremy at halo wars and beat up Troy she can use a knife" Ingo informed Jamie solemnly.
I groaned. Three hours in, and we had stopped at three rest stops because they wanted to get soda to drink and to store. At this rate we would end up at our destination the day we were due back. But when I mentioned this the guys complained that they had known it would be a bad idea to bring me.
Therefore, when we pulled into the driveway of the main office of the camping community a long time after dusk I was the only whose bladder was not on the verge of spontaneously combusting, and I relished in this fact, making bathroom jokes, turning on cd's of rainfall and noisily slurping my water bottle. So of course as soon as the car stopped they all took off as though the devil's hounds were at their heels and left me to carry all nine overstuffed duffle bags along with a lifetimes supply of soda to the office so that we could get the keys to our cabin. I grabbed my three bags and a bottle of soda first, and the breath was knocked out of me as I swung my third bag onto my back. I staggered a few steps in the dark toward the towering beacon of the lone lamppost outside the office I took another step- and collapsed.
As I struggled to get up a polite cough from the side made me jump. I struggled with the button on my cargoes and pulled out a flashlight and my knife. The boy who had witnessed my pathetic demise raised his arms in a symbol of peace and chuckled-"got anything else in there little girl?" he asked, his voice was compelling, teasing.
I glared
"oh come on now, I meant to ask- I meant to ask you-" he paused again.
"Meant to ask me what, If I needed help? Well I don't" I retorted
A smile was in his voice as he replied- “Well now actually I was going to ask what kind of moron makes a- how old are you?"
"15"
"16. Well a fifteen year old girl carry a truckload all the way over there" he pointed to the beacon.
I waved a couple empty soda bottles at him
"... And I presume you're the smart one who didn't partake.?..."
I laughed grudgingly. It was funny how he let his sentences hang.
"and after that" he continued, clearly satisfied with my reaction "after that I was going to ask if I could help you- and whack them over the heads with one of those... I'm assuming it's more than one?" he queried
I held up three fingers and made a face. He winced theatrically, causing me to laugh again. I gestured toward the truck bed, and grabbed a full two liters of coke and handed it to him. He grinned infectiously, and I had to join in.
"I will put this to good use, and thus avenge thane slavery lady..."
"Juliet-Ennalise"
"Jason"
"araganots?" I asked as we walked toward the office each carrying two bags and weilding a bottle of soda.
"Yeah, and you?"
"Shakespeare"
"I'll have to reread him; I thought I'd memorized all of the plays"
"Excuse me?"
"I don't remember an ennalise in Romeo and Juliet"
I opened my mouth to reply but at that moment indigo came loping over to us and took my bags. He motioned toward the truck. And I jogged off to get two more.

Now the story.
You have no "grabber" at the beginning. Something that says

A few suggestions.
1) Write from personal experience.

3) Edit your work ruthlessly.
4) Read what others have written and published.
Study their style. How do they get your attention in

ANSWER:
In the area where I live there were no place to buy hunting and fishing equipment except 3 privately owned locations.Everything that you bought you paid dearly for it. But now we have an Academy in the nearest town. Thousands of choices for lures, hundreds for reels and rods. And the good thing about it- they will sometimes run sales on reels, rods and fishing equipment 50% off regular price. If there is an academy within driving distance watch their ads. The sales start on Sunday and last a week.Almost any thing you need if you can hold off on getting it, will at some point be on sale for 50% off. And a lot of items will be on sale in the store that was not in the ad. Two weeks ago I bought a pack of broadheads for bow hunting that was regularly for .I love the store!

QUESTION:
has anyone used P-Line CX Premium Fishing Line before?
and if so how does it stand up to berkley big game, im considering changing brands-
ANSWER:
It's decent line. Relatively strong, slightly thinner than the CXX in sizes above 6lb (which is really strong). It's a smooth casting CO-polymer. It's a little stretchy actually, but doesn't have a lot of memory until it's been on the spool a while. I liked it for steelhead when I needed a little bit more stretch for forgiving hard hits. It's a good bass line for soft plastics and shallow running cranks if you use the 8-12lb. If you're running 8 and below, it's going to be a little stretchy - so beware....but not in a bad springy sort of way,Big game is a much harder, stiffer line with much less memory. It tends to be rated accurately and breaks close to the manufacturers claims. The CX will typically break 2-5lbs higher depending on the line weight (ie. 12 would break at 15; 6 would break at 8.....).
Hope that helps.

Guppies are pretty flexible in terms of diet, so I think the "Marine Flakes" would be fine for them.
In fact, herring meal and whole wheat flour are also principal ingredients in some foods designed for guppies.
I had to chuckle when you said the label "says that it's premium." The company selling any food will claim that it's premium. Since there's no legal definition of "premium," anybody can say that about anything, and it doesn't mean a darned thing.
But the food is OK for your guppies. I would use it if I were you.

Tie Fishing Line

The Best Fly Fishing Knot That You Can Tie
Tying a high quality fly fishing knot is an important aspect of a repertoire for a fly fisherman in order to catch the ideal fish. The line is basically consisted of different lines on top of the fly at the tail end; consequently tying a good knot is a requirement so as not to make it come loose when you are out on your fishing voyage. Otherwise there will be gloomy tale to tell of the fishes that get away.
So how to tell what is a good knot? The mark of one is that it will not become slacken when you are battling with the fish. To do so, a good practice is to moisten it by applying water or saliva, then tighten it with a firm pull to enable it to be snug firmly throughout the whole knot. That is the correct method if the fish will to drag in one direction; it will not cause the line to sever as the knot is consistently tightened.
After strengthening the knot, it is vital to check every knot to make certain that there is no abrasion. If not the fisherman has to redo it so that it can face up to the test. When you discover that a line is torn or worn out, then it is time to get a new one or the knot will cause you to lose your catch. Every part of the line and knot have to be in ideal state or you will never get the best fly fishing knot irrespective of your tying skill.
Perhaps we can examine certain types of knots in order to get the fishing line equipped and all set up. Nearest to the reel, we have the Arbor knot that is most frequently employed to unite backing of the spool to the reel. After which, you utilize an Albright knot to fasten the backing to the fly line. That can create a problem as generally the lines are constructed of dissimilar materials. The next fly fishing knot to consider is the Nail knot as it joins the leader to the fly line and it is a very important knot as it is what turns the fly over at casting. The next to take note is the Double Surgeon's fly knot that ties the tippet to the leader. Finally, the Improved Clinch fly fishing knot is for most part employed to connect the tippet to the fly, therefore the job of tying the fly fishing line is done.

Fishing Lures That Look Alive
Buy Esca Lures online at - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Innovative-Fishing-Tackle/
Fishing lures are like quality food. When you try to skimp and spend less money, it almost always ends in disappointment. If you want something that tastes great, or in the case of this article looks alive, you're going to have to buy quality. If you skimp on fishing lures, they never perform very well, and simply aren't very effective. Not to mention the fact that when you look at these types of lures underwater, in "action if you will, they don't look very alive.
Fishing lures that look alive, I mean really look alive can be hard to come by. But when you find one, the results can be very good. It only makes sense that the more that your fishing lure look like a real, live bait fish, the more fish that lure will help you catch. So, are there fishing lure options, other than Rapala's, that actually look alive? As a matter of fact there are.
When it comes to fishing lures that look alive, it's difficult to find one that looks more realistic than the KickTail Minnow. This fishing lure looks as much like a real shad as any fishing lure that I've ever come in contact with. It truly is quite incredible. Imagine the possibilities of having a fishing lure that looks just like a real shad? The results can be amazing
The bottom line is that fishing lures that look alive are hard to come by, but are also amazingly effective, once you get your hands on a few. Using sub par fishing lures can make fishing like walking on a huge hamster wheel...there's a lot of movement, but you never get anywhere. And know one likes that. Make sure that you have a variety of these types of fishing lures in you repertoire...the kind that look alive.
Rapala R Type Rods
I've always used and trusted Rapala throughout my fishing years and I must say their new R Type rods are a great addition to my Bass fishing collection!
The Rapala R Type rods are nicely balanced, strong and light. You no longer have to spend a fortune for these important rod characteristics because Rapala made it affordable. It was designed by Canadian anglers for Canadian anglers and the kind folks at Rapala made it happen.I think these rods are going to be a big seller because they sure sold me on them. They felt great while Pike fishing thus far and with Bass season just around the corner; let's just say that I know which combo will be throwing the grubs this coming month!
While working the fishing shows this past winter trying to fit young and old anglers with a rod, I leaned towards the Rapala stand to fit their budget. The first time I put the medium heavy R Type casting rod in my hands I was quite impressed and confident anglers would enjoy using them; I know I was going to!
The Rapala R Type casting rod moulds to my grip for a true strong hold, and that's an advantage out on the water.Remember, comfort is important and Rapala R Type rods have that covered, as well as, strength to boost our confidence.Try one for yourself and you will be impressed too!I have found a rightful place for them in my rod racks next to the Steeze collection!

Plug Fishing Lures - For the Sports Fisherman
Plug fishing lures are are a favorite stable for sports fishermen. Some plug lure designs become famous for their effectiveness while others come and go quickly. The action is built into the design of plug lure which makes them an effective tool even for those new to fishing. Experienced user increase the action of the lure by changing the speed of the retrieve, letting the plug stop in the water and then quickly retrieving and by flicking or twitching the tip of the fishing rod.
These lures may be built with a hollow core or may be made with a sold molded plastic body. Balsa wood is often used though most designs today use plastic for construction. The lure is made in two pieces which are joined by a flexible link. This linked construction adds movement in the water as the natural flow causes the links to move back and forth independently. Two, or perhaps three, treble hooks are attached to the body of the lure.
A unique aspect of plug lures is the ability to design them to display diving depths and the amount of wobbling needed at various depths. This diving is determined by the "lip" attached at the front end of this lure. Lures with a large lip are useful in catching fish that hide in deeper water. The large lip catches the water and allows the plug lure to descent to a depth of several metres. Manufacturers often list their plug lures as "shallow diver" or "deep diver". The shallow diver with a small lip will dip just below the water's surface while deep divers are the lures with a large lip and will descend quickly into the pond or stream.
Although plug lures are not surface lures, they do hover on the surface and then descend either slowly or drop quickly depending on design and use. Other surface lures have no lip or built-in action of multiple connected sections and rely on the fisherman to use his rod to generate action in the lure.
Plug lures may be found in sizes as large as 20 cm or as small as 5-7 cm and are available in range of colors. They may also be patterned with bright colors to resemble crayfish or frogs; colors may be loud and garish or resemble colors found in nature to blend into the water surface.
Producing fishing lures that provide the action and weight needed to catch the species of fish you are aiming for is a highly technical endeavor. A few companies have become well known for their expertise in making fishing lures for both the casual angler and the aggressive sports fisherman. Manufacturers known for producing lures of the highest quality include:
Pro-Star - known for producing high tech bait designs and incredible action lures
Rapala - realistic bait fish designs, great for bass
Storm - the do-everything top water lure and flexible lures as well
Fladen - easy to cast and perfect for sea bass and predatory fish

GasolineDon't you think it's important enough that countries would go to war for it?
-
ANSWER:
Now you are actually trying to justify going to war to take the resources of other countries. I can't support that. I think it is unethical and immoral. Worse yet, I deplore and oppose lying about the reason. When George H.W. Bush honestly stated that a basis for the 1st Gulf War was oil, he could also justify the action because Iraq had invaded Kuwait. If you can’t bargain for the resources that you need then use an intermediary. Do what you have to do in order to avoid killing people and destroying countries.
Japan attacked us because we stopped selling them oil and they were afraid of US interference in their quest for oil in the East Indies. They bombed our Pacific fleet in order to try to prevent that interference.
Don’t tell me that you would actually defend and justify the attack on Pearl Harbor based on Japan’s need for oil. Your morality must have some parameters.

Still ready to eliminate those evil oil companies?
Irongram - There is enough oil that can be safely drilled in Alaska the Dakotas and the Rocky mountains(from shale) to supply Americas needs for the next 100 years. All spots that if there was a break would be fixed in a day. Even shallow water drilling would have been fixed in a week at the most. We are drilling in deep water because of the misconception that it was safer for our coasts. It is actually more dangerous.-
ANSWER:
Liberals are not against drilling , they are just against drilling in the USA, if they can corner the American Oil Market, then they can get fifthly rich from their investments in foreign oil companies that export oil to us, like the one below
http://sweetness-light.com/archive/obama-helps-soros-drill-oil-in-brazil
they have been doing it for the last 30 years, with their 25 year ban in the 80's they have raised our oil imports from 30% then to 70% now, nice little profits for the GREEN people, I'm sure Gore has investments in this too
