QUESTION:
are any of daiwas rods 2 piece?
Daiwa reels consist of many more than just two pieces. Both salt and fresh water.
When you take your reel apart and put it back together, make sure you have no parts left over.
You wouldn't perhaps be wondering about daiwa RODS would you? Just be careful your one piece doesn't come back as a two piece.
Good luck on your fishing trip.thanks to grand master basser for that...lol

ANSWER:
You're welcome.
l had an idea you really meant rods, becoming a smartazz comes easy here after a while. Sorry.
And adjustable rod cases are available at most sporting goods stores or you can use just a long, capped piece of PVC available at any hardware or garden store.
Again, catch some good ol' bigguns.P.S. ... Did l get best answer for that other one?

QUESTION:
Fishing rod question?
I recently snapped 2 rods: a shimano 662 eclipse and a jarvis walker rod. so i need some new rods. I also have a brand new rovex aures reel and a jarvis walker gold reel from my broken rods. So i was wondering what a good rod for fishing in salt and fresh would be, a strong rod that is relatively sensitive and versitile to lures and bait (if possible). I do also have a cheap baitcaster. I would be catching fish in the Murray river and in saltwater along the south-east and north-east parts of Australia catching whatever i can. So what would be a good rod or rods that are at a maximum price of 0 to 0. I have heard that 'daiwa' is very good and 'st Croix' or 'quantum', is this true and are they cheap, do i have to pay a fortune for a good rod?, there is also rods on e-bay that look alright (are they).
so could you please list some good rods and if possible some good baitcaster combos. Thanksp.s. What is the best for spooling braid or mono, i know mono is good for leader and thats what i use and if anybodies got tips for catching Murray cod please share i know a few special baits that seem to work alright.
thanks for the current results i do prefer a two piece for easier travel and mobility-
ANSWER:
look into the higher end shimano rods.
l see here they offer rods labelled differently than those in the states.
shimano rods are priced very well and many of the models come with a lifetime warranty.
the "crucial" models as well as one or two others here have this guarantee.l'm guessing that shimano austrailia would have comparable warranties on their products sold in australia.

QUESTION:

Thi si my first one so I have some questions. Serious answer are helpful. It is on Lake ErieHow many rods should I bring? Spinning and casting
I am not sure what I will be throwing but I have an idea. I am doing reasearch on that as I speak. As far as rods go here is what I have:
2 Cabelas Prodigy MH Fast 7ft Casting
-one has a Quntam energy pt 6.3.1 and the other a Daiwa Exceler 7.11 Cabelas Prodigy 6ft 6in MH Casting
-has the Prodigy reel 6:3.1 ratio2 Bass Pro Crankin sticks 7' M action
-same as cabelas MH for the reels1 Bass Pro Crankin sticks 7' MH action
-Daiwa Exceler 6.3.11 6'10'' MH Custom made by a rod builder I know very good rod (use for spinnerbaits alot)
-Pro Qualifier reel 6.3.1 ration (great reel)1 7' H Custom made by a rod builder I know very good rod
-Daiwa Exceler 7.12 Cabelas Prodigy 7' M action spinning/ 1-6'6" M Cabelas spinning
-abu cardnial reel for all three.I dont have the money to buy the best but my stuff is ok. I fish about 200 days a year and I take very good care of everything and it is all in great working order. I have a few good rods and reals but for the most part it is the mid grade stuff. So this has to work for me in some way. I can by a couple more outfits if needed. If you have any lure and presentaion tips those are helpful too. But I have that part down. My mind is to this level but my equipment is still behind. So, please help thank you all and tight lines and good fishing.
It is not until the end of september so I have some time
And any info on tackle storage tips too, I am going to be a co angler-
ANSWER:
I fish as a co angler in the walmart BFLs and I wondered the same thing when I first started. What I do is ask the boater what style of fishing he will be doing and what type of water we will be fishing. So far every boater I,ve been paired with has been happy to share the information with me and thats how you narrow down what tackle you need to bring.I try to limit my selections to 6 rods, usually encorporating 4 baitcasters and 2 spinning outfits. Some co anglers bring as many as 10 but I would suggest no more than 8.Since you are new to this format I would like to introduce you to an unwritten rule that will help you.Give your boater some gas money. He has allready spent countless dollars on fuel prefishing and is sharing his spot with you.At least is the accepted norm.I usually give if we are making a long run sometimes more.Alot of the time they will go out of their way to help you get your limit(sharing lures, not front ending you etc) if you are thoughtfull this way. They are not competing against you anyway but the outher boaters. The equipment you have is fine so long as the line is fresh.Alot of boaters don,t have stuff that good.I can,t help you with Lake Erie so far as a good bait or presentation as I am in the South but it sounds like you have a handle on that anyway.I will be fishing at Ross Barnett Reservour in Mississippi in September trying to stay in the top 40 to make it to the regionals at Barkley Lake in Kentucky.Good luck I hope you win

Choosing the Right Rod and Reel
The variety of fishing gear is endless. Dozens of reels to crank when the clerk isn't looking and dozens of rods to twitch without hitting another customer.
Here's what I do: before I go into the sport shop I decide what I am going after. And I do just that. But, aside, I usually end up with cans of to-die-for pretzels and elk jerky, too.
Picking the right reel for the job is easy if you know what fish species you'll be going after. I'm lucky, I use the same rod and reels for bass, walleye and yellow perch.
I prefer a spinning reel over the baitcaster. That's what I grew up with and that's what feels best in my hand. I also like the control it gives me when casting and fighting a fish.
Most freshwater fishing is easily done with a spinning reel but what about size? How big or small of a reel should I purchase for my next trip to Lake Erie?
Reel manufactures like to assign numbers to their products. The number usually denotes its size. The larger the number, the larger the reel.
Look for reels with numbers such as 200, or 2000, 2500 or 3000 (my choice). These reels are prime sizes for most river and lake fishing. Larger reels such as 4000, 4500 or 5000 usually denote saltwater reels, made for 8, 9-foot rods for surf or pier fishing.
There is one exception to this rule, I've found. And that's the size of the fisherman who will be using the reel. A large man with big hands might think a 2500 Shimano is too small to operate. Then obviously go with a larger reel.
Price-wise, it's a jungle out there. Reels can cost anywhere from up to 0. I've never owned a 0 reel and probably won't. I tend to stick in the -0 range.
When you pick up a reel read the information on the box. It will tell you a lot about what's inside. Reels with more stainless steel ball bearings will likely last longer, but cost more.
But price and longivity go hand in hand. Buy a reel and you might have to purchase one every two years. Buy a 0 reel and it might last four years. In the long run, the cost is the same.
Generally, spool your reels with 8-12-pound test line.
Now that you've decided on a reel let's stroll over to the rod rack. It's here that I spent the most money. I want strength, sensitivity, light weight feel, quality guides, a real cork handle and a reel seat that won't cut into my hand. Keep this in mind and you will choose wisely.
Some manufacturers still offer fiberglass rods, but most turn out varying grades made of graphite and other binding materials. Why graphite? It's strong, light and sensitive. Take care and it will last 5-10 years.
Choosing the length of the rod is pretty much subjective. Some anglers like a shorter stick, while others want more tip to fight their fish. If you can afford it buy both and you'll know soon enough what's right for you.
As I indicated earlier, I am sold on the smaller reel such as a 2000 Diawa or 2500 Shimano spinning reel. This size is perfect for a 6-foot or 6'6" rod.
Unless you are sold on a custom built fishing rod, stick with well known companies like Berkley, Fenwick, Zebco and Shakespeare. Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's also offer some good stuff under their name.
As with reels, the more you spend the better the equipment. It's up to the individual to decide what's best for his/her budget.
Under the weight of a fish, A good rod should always have a gentle curve from near the handle to the tip. This means the weight is being distributed equally up and down the shaft.
So, when I go shopping I take along a one-pound weight tied to some fishing line with a snap swivel on the other end. When trying out a rod, snap the weight on to the tip's eye then lift slowly and observe the curve. If there isn't any, the rod is too stiff. If the rod tip goes to the floor, the rod is too limp. You want something in between.
All rods are marked as to their strength. Look just above the handle and you will find some writing. Letter "M" mean a medium rod; "MH" means medium-heavy; "L" light. You get the idea.
Remember, though, a Zebco medium probably won't be the same as a Berkley medium. Check it out.

QUESTION:
which spinning reel from daiwa for surf is worth buying?
I need to buy some really high end reel to make myself happy.which rod should go with that.I have so many reels n rods but they just cant get broken cos I sort of a maintenance freak, everyday after fishing I will strip n clean the reel.So use to that its like 30minutes the most.which is better, high end but a bit decent/appropriate just more than usual.-
ANSWER:
I'd switch off to Shimano either baitcaster or spinning for the surf. I have two big spinning reels I bought from bass pro shops, bought the ugly stick 13 & 15ft from cabelas.com Funny how one always seems to have a better price on one part of my combos.I think a lot of the Penn reels are over-rated and $$$. Never put much into daiwa except for freshwater baitcasting...don't like their freshwater spinning reels.
Good luck ...

QUESTION:
Forgive me for being so stupid but I need some knot tying advice for a Daiwa 47H Reel?
I feel stupid asking this and I know I should. On the Spools of the larger big water Daiwa Baitcasting reels their is a nib on the spool. What is the nib for? How should I tie the line to the spool, what is the best knot? I want the reel setup to catch 6 foot sturgeons.
I know what an Arbor knot is but it just doesn't seem very strong.-
ANSWER:
Arbor knot is fine. If you get spooled by the fish its not going to matter much what kind of knot you used to tie onto the reel. If you find that the knot you used slips, take it off and tie the opposite way. It will lock up then. Unless your using braided line it has a tendency to slip any way you tie it. When using braid on my baitcasters I use a mono or flourocarbon backing to keep the slippage from happening then tie on the braid, then add a flouro leader.

Here's more about the fishing reels manufactured by Shimano:
These fishing reels are of extremely durable design and manufacture specifically for big game fishing. Blue-water anglers catch big types of fish like marlin, tuna, swordfish, salmon, or halibut. These reels can handle the numerous heavy bouts that come with offshore sportfishing.
Their quality reels also allow casting at a longer distances without exerting as much effort. This can be attributed to the special line management and oscillation systems. You do not need to worry about tired arms and casting your line only a few feet in front of you. This will allow you to cover larger areas when fishing.
You also do not need to worry about line tangles or backlash because of the efficient line management system. The body is made up of aluminum while the side-plate and rotor are made of graphite. These materials make this fishing reel last for a long time even after using it for many seasons.
The price of these reels can range from to 0 depending on the type of reel.
How To Buy The Best Fishing Reels
One technique that every fisherman uses to catch the fish is the technique of good casting. Good casting means you are fast in casting and retrieving the fishing lure in the water. Fishermen continually cast and retrieve the fishing lure in the water to catch the fish attention and make them bite the hook. You need to be fast when it comes to this technique. Your speed depends on the type fishing reels you have. There are several of fishing reels that you can choose from and available for you in the market. Each of those has their own unique features that include the speed.

What is the Best Time of Year?
Since I am not considering any particular location, as a general rule of thumb I would have to say spring and fall. Now that doesn't mean if you are fishing in the winter or summer that the surf fishing will be poor. It most likely just won't be outstanding. That being said, it doesn't mean the fishing will be outstanding in the spring and fall. What it does mean is that given the same set of circumstances, the fishing will probably be better in the spring and fall. Surf fishing depending on your location can be good year round. If you know what you're doing it isn't difficult to catch fish in the surf year round.
What is the Best Time of Day?
This question is easier to answer. In the early morning just before dawn until 9 or 10 AM and in the evening an hour or two before dusk. This follows the nocturnal feeding habits of the fish. During the summer when a lot of the beaches are occupied by sunbathers, dusk might be your best bet after they have left the beach. In some areas the rule is no fishing in swimming areas from the time lifeguards go on duty until the time they go off.
What is the Best Tide Time?
It's no secret that the tides affect surf fishing. Moving water at the surf line is good for fishing. High tide is best because it's easier to cast out and reach the deeper water. The window of opportunity is two hours before high tide and two hours after. Slack tide which is right between high tide and low tide is not productive for surf fishing. Low tide in most areas is usually only good for scouting the beach for ideal fishing spots.
What are the Best Moon Phases?
The moon not only plays a part in the tidal movements, it also affects the fishing. Let me explain. The moon produces the most extreme tide changes, referred to as spring tides, during the new moon and the full moon. The water moves faster during the change in tides from high to low tide and the total change in depth is the greatest. This is the best time to fish the surf. Also, common belief is that during a full moon the fish feed most of the night.
What are the Best Weather Conditions?
Weather conditions are a little more difficult to address because of all the different kinds of weather factors. An onshore breeze if it isn't too strong is a plus. Cold fronts are negative factors. High wind and surf is also bad. High winds make it difficult to fish and the water clarity is very poor. Low pressure is better than high pressure during a spring tide. When the weather conditions have been poor for the last 24 hours the fishing won't improve until the fish have had a chance to acclimate. Sometimes it may take a day or two depending on how severe the weather has been.
Now after considering all the best times for surf fishing, it's easy to understand how these situations can work together when they occur at the same time. When planning to go surf fishing try to take advantage of the time when several of these conditions overlap each other.
Seven Quick Steps to Start Surf Fishing Right Away
If you've never surf fished before this article is written for you. My goal is to provide you with a very simple, easy to follow method so you will catch your first fish in the surf. That's all I want you to be able to do. Just catch a fish, any fish. I don't care if you have never caught a fish in your life. I want you to see how exciting and easy it is to do. After that I guarantee you'll be hooked and I will have accomplished my goal. Once you catch your first fish you'll have the confidence I want you to get. At that point you will have the incentive to learn everything you can about this sport and enjoy many successful hours at the surf line.
Surf fishing is a neglected sport. You don't hear much about it. The ironic thing is that it's probably the the easiest to do and the most exciting. How strange is that?
Okay let's get started.
Get A Surf Rod And Reel Combo
I want you to go down to Walmart or one of the big sporting good chains. You have go to one of them within range of the coastline otherwise they won't carry any surf gear. Your budget for a surf rod and reel combo is under . You can probably find something for around . (A combo is a rod & reel combination)
Pick out any spinning surf rod and reel combo that strikes your fancy. Surf rods are heavier and longer than regular salt water rods. Get something at least 10' but not longer than 12' If you can find the Daiwa combo or the Shakespeare combo that's great. Otherwise most any surf combo will do. Remember this is a beginners intro. Once you get into it you'll probably want to get more professional gear.
Get The Minimum Required Tackle
This is going to a very short, simple list.
300 yds. of mono filament line 20 lb. Test (if your combo didn't come spooled with line)
2 or maybe 3 Pyramid sinkers 3oz. weight
1 pkg. of 2/0 circle hooks ( Look at the ready made leaders with hooks on them so you can see how their set up)
1 pkg. of #2 snap swivels
Get Your Gear Set Up
Okay now spool the line on your reel and don't wind it on too loosely. Wind your line on through a piece of Styrofoam or anything that will put a little drag on it as fills up your reel. We're not going to deal with a shock leader at this stage. You probably won't be casting that hard anyway. If you don't know what a shock leader is don't worry about it. You can find when you need to know or just look it up. That's too much to get into at this stage.
With the hook and sinker you can go one of two ways. Either one will get the job done at this point.
Method #1
Make a short 12" leader for the hook and tie it on your line about 18" from the end of your line (Remember you saw hooks with leaders at the tackle store). Tie a snap swivel on the end of your line and attach the pyramid sinker to it..
Method #2
Attach a #2 snap swivel to a pyramid sinker and slide in on your line so that it can slide freely. Attach another #2 snap swivel to the end of your line and attach a leader to it with a 2/0 hook on it.
That's it your surf rig is ready to go.
Learn To Cast
Pick an appropriate location like a park or ball field where there won't be any people around. You can tape off the hook for safety so you won't have to take it off. Now I want you to practice casting until you can cast with a basic amount of control for direction and distance. This isn't a bad idea even if you have some experience. Practice until you can cast 100' to 200' with a reasonable amount of predictability. If you can do better that's great. If you try to cast much further you will need to learn and use a shock leader.
Why You Need To Know About Tides
I need to give you a quick lesson on tides and surf fishing. Find the tide tables for your location. I'll give you three possibilities. Find them on the Internet, look for them in the local coastal newspaper or ask at the local bait and tackle shop.
Find out when you can go to the beach at low tide. Visit the beach and look for variations in the bottom. Note spots for pockets and changes in the formation of the bottom, basically where you can cast into deeper water or past a sandbar. If you can spot a rip through a sandbar so much the better. These will be your target spots to fish.
Pick The Right Time To Fish The Surf
Okay now you know where you are going to fish and the water you will be targeting. Go back to the the tide charts. Find a time when high tide occurs in the early daylight hours or around early dusk. It doesn't matter which one you pick. You are going to fish a two hour window before and after high tide which will be four hours of fishing time. Now you know when to go fishing.

Jigging New Zealand
Japanese jigging, butterfly jigging and jigging are terms used to describe a contemporary technique for fishing with long metal jigs, in a rhythmic action. The action goes something like this: drop the rod tip and wind the reel one revolution, lift the rod tip and repeat at speed, through the fish active water column. Sounds awkward but with practice it becomes a natural fluid action. Mechanical jigging is very effective, often out-fishing traditional speed jigging, mainly because the lure is kept longer in the fish zone and a more frenzied lure action produces more bites.
Rods used are short, non-traditional parabolic high modulus graphite rods, which are very strong with huge lifting power and the parabolic action imparts some fluidity to the jig. These rods are generally not parabolic in the original sense but, with great hoop strength and thick walls, they are capable of handling heavy braid and massive drag pressures. Know this: not all rods are created equal. There are some real back-breaking shockers out there. Most good rods are factory-tested so if you break one, warranty claims may on deaf ears because it may have been used outside the manufacturer's specifications.Rods are given a PE rating, which is the braid-breaking strain: PE-8 is 80lb, PE-5 is 50lb generally. Rods also have a rating for recommended lure weight, maximum reel drag setting and maximum angle at which the highest drag setting can be applied to not point-load the rod. Some popular rods are Smiths, Shimano jigwrex, Shimano blue rose, Xzoga, Jigging master, Terminator, Daiwa Monster Mesh and power jig rods.
The reel specs are as follows: braid capable, ideally narrow, low speed - between 4 and 5:1 for heavy braid PE 5 -8 (that's 50 to 80lb, but usually breaks at 100 to 150lb crazy ratings but that's the world of braid) and up to 6:1 ratio for lighter braid is fine.Popular reel brands include Daiwa Saltist, Daiwa Saltiga, Shimano Ocean Jigger, Shimano Torsa, Shimano Trinidad, Accurate Reel, and Fin-nor Offshores. There are also some exotics like Blue Heaven and Pro Gear. Factory drags are often up-rated with carbontex kits but be warned: this can void a warranty. However, you will find that these reels can take it when market handles (like the Power jig T-bar and Accurate round knobs) are fitted, making it more comfortable and less abrasive than a rubber handle. Spin or overhead? In New Zealand, we're about 80/20 in favour of overhead. Daiwa Saltiga Expedition 6000, Shimano Stella SW 20000 and Fin-nor Offshore 7500 8500 are the pick of the bunch and will handle PE 5-8 braid and all low speed so you can get a crank on decent fish. Metal jigs, long jigs, knife jigs, 7 gram to 700 gram, centre, tail- and head-weighted, all shapes and sizes - there is a huge variety of jigs, from designer to cheap. But you do get what you pay for. Good jigs don't bend so much, the paint and prism film doesn't lift and the wire that sticks out the end goes right through the jig. A kevlar cord, via a solid ring that is, in turn, attached to the jig by a strong split ring, usually connects the hook. Hooks need to be super-sharp and strong to ensure good penetration and holding power. Reliable brands include Zest Jigs, Powerjig, River 2 Sea, Hook Choice, Fisherman, Owner Monster and Mustad Hoodlum.
Here at Go Fish we are mechanical jigging specialists. We built the gear, we understand modern tackle and techniques and we are always happy to discuss trends and tackle. So it's time to go out to the shed, put the old gear up for sale and invest in some modern mechanical jigging tackle. We're not only talking heavy gear. There is also great light 20-30lb tackle available that's effective on yellowtail (kingfish) bass, haupuka, trumpeter, haupuka, tuna, and many other fish and that will keep you smiling and enjoying your sport fishing for years to come. This is fishing today.
Gofish Tackle Co is an Auckland fishing store that has been following and developing all the tackle and gear required to suit New Zealand conditions. We are always happy to discuss tackle trends and development.
Shimano Vs Daiwa Spinning Reels
Shimano Stradic: Your Shimano Reels Option For Big Game Fishing
Shimano, which is a well-recognized manufacturer of fishing equipment, is constantly finding ways to improve the older versions of its creations. One of these is the Shimano Stradic MgF, which is updated to a lighter model free from flaws. The new Stradic is not incorporated anymore with the breakaway handle. Nor does it have the coating, which has a rubbery texture, of the older model. This coating wears away gradually with so much use. When compared to the older version of the Shimano Stradic MgF and its other MgF model, the most current Stradic MgF creation only weighs 0.2 oz heavier despite its metal spool.
Shimano Stradic MgFA: Shimano Spinning Reels
Shimano has different types of fishing reels, and among of these are the spinning reels. One model of these spinning reels is the Shimano Stradic MgFA, which is one of the manufacturer’s lightest spinning reels. The light weight of this fishing reel is due to the magnesium utilized to make its frame. Even if the Shimano Stradic MgFA is very light, it is still capable of fighting heavy dragging fishes, especially the big species. If you want to make sure that you get to reel in every fish that bites the bait, opt for this series of the Stradic.
The Shimano Stradic GTM-RA 4000
The MgFA is not the only reel from the Stradic series of Shimano reels. There is also another model: the GTM-RA 4000. This Shimano fishing reel has a classic pearl white body, which is backed by a unique magnesium appearance for its hind drag cowling. Underneath the cowling is also the enhanced hind Fighting Drag. The Shimano Stradic GTM-RA 4000 is equipped with 4 A-RB bearings, along with roller bearing for boosting the performance and power of the fishing reel. What is more, it comes with a hybrid spool that is made from aluminum. The spool for the Shimano Stradic GTM-RA 4000 has a titanium lip that lessens the weight of the reel. Because of this, it provides easy casting, playing with the fish, and trolling. This version of the Stradic features the well-known Double Handle of Shimano.
The Fighting Drag of the Stradic GTM-RA 4000
There are several wonderful features that come with the Shimano Stradic GTM-RA 4000. But the most awesome attribute of this fishing reel is its fighting drag. This specific Shimano reel is a handy fishing gadget, which is controlled by a single lever. This allows you to make the drag slack or tight even with one sweep of the line. The maximum drag setting of this reel is controlled by a conventional dial rotation. The dial is found at the reel’s rear. The drag is set after the lever is placed within the center position. The drag feature of the Shimano Stradic GTM-RA 4000 may also be utilized as temporary baitrunner. With this type of usage, you are letting the fish drag the line and stop it after you picking up your rod as you sweep the reel’s fighting drag to a tighter position.
Whether you want to know more about fishing equipment or you want to buy your own set, the best choice is to go online. There are several sites that are selling all kinds of fishing gadgets such as Shimano reels. One of these online sites is Sea Isle Tackle.
