Fishing in Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Great Smoky Mountains National Park has about 2,115 miles of streams within its boundaries, and protects one of the last wild trout habitats in the eastern United States. The park offers a wide variety of angling experiences from remote, headwater trout streams to large, coolwater smallmouth bass streams. Most streams remain at or near their carrying capacity of fish and offer a great opportunity to catch these species throughout the year.

Fishing is permitted year-round in the park, from 30 minutes before official sunrise to 30 minutes after official sunset. The park allows fishing in all streams EXCEPT the following streams and their tributaries upstream from the points described:

North Carolina
Bear Creek at its junction with Forney Creek.

Tennessee
Lynn Camp Prong upstream of its confluence with Thunderhead Prong.

These streams are closed to fishing to allow fish to repopulate following restoration work. For the exact location, consult the appropriate USGS 1:24,000 Quadrangle Map available at park visitor centers. Detailed information, including a complete list of regulations and a map of fishable park waters, is also available at any visitor center or ranger station.

License Requirements
You must possess a valid fishing license or permit from either Tennessee or North Carolina. Either state license is valid throughout the park and no trout stamp is required. Fishing licenses and permits are not available in the park, but may be purchased in nearby towns or online (links provided by state below). Special permits are required for fishing in Gatlinburg and Cherokee.

Tennessee License Requirements
Residents and nonresidents age 13 and older must have a valid license. Residents age 65 and older may obtain a special license from the state. Buy a license from the state government of Tennessee.

North Carolina License Requirements
Residents and nonresidents age 16 and older need a license. Residents age 70 and older may obtain a special license from the state. Buy a license from the state government of North Carolina.

Persons under 16 in North Carolina and under 13 in Tennessee are entitled to the adult daily bag and possession limits and are subject to all other regulations.

Season
Fishing is permitted year-round in open waters.

Time
Fishing is allowed from a half hour before official sunrise to a half hour after official sunset.

Daily Possession Limits
Five (5) brook, rainbow or brown trout, smallmouth bass, or a combination of these, each day or in possession, regardless of whether they are fresh, stored in an ice chest, or otherwise preserved. The combined total must not exceed five fish.

Twenty (20) rock bass may be kept in addition to the above limit.

A person must stop fishing immediately after obtaining the limit.

Size Limits
Brook, rainbow, and brown trout: 7 inch minimum
Smallmouth bass: 7 inch minimum
Rockbass: no minimum

Trout or smallmouth bass caught less than the legal length shall be immediately returned to the water from which it was taken.

Lures, Bait, and Equipment
Fishing is permitted only by the use of one hand-held rod.

Only artificial flies or lures with a single hook may be used. Dropper flies may be used. Up to two flies on a leader.

Use or possession of any form of fish bait or liquid scent other than artificial flies or lures on or along any park stream while in possession of fishing tackle is prohibited. Prohibited baits include, but are not limited to, minnows (live or preserved), worms, corn, cheese, bread, salmon eggs, pork rinds, liquid scents and natural baits found along streams.

Use or possession of double, treble, or gang hooks is prohibited.

Fishing tackle and equipment, including creels and fish in possession, are subject to inspection by authorized personnel.

Safety
Standing and wading in streams can drain body heat and lead to hypothermia. Rising water levels resulting from sudden mountain storms occur quite frequently, so monitor water level. Water currents are swifter than they appear and footing is treacherous on wet and moss covered rocks. Additional information about water safety.

Be A Clean Fisherman
If there's a tangle of line, or an empty can at your feet, clean up after your fellow angler.

Brook Trout Fishing
Because of the results of recent fisheries research and the success of the park's brook trout restoration effort, in 2006 park management opened brook trout fishing and harvest park-wide for the first time since 1976. The results of a recent three-year brook trout fishing study indicate there was no decline in adult brook trout density or reproductive potential in any of the eight streams opened to fishing during the experimental period compared to eight streams closed to fishing during the same time period

Disturbing and moving rocks to form channels and rock dams is illegal in the park!
Moving rocks is harmful to both fish and aquatic insects that live in the streams. Many fish species that live in the park spawn between April and August. Some of these fish build their nests in small cavities under rocks and even guard the nest. When people move the rock, the nest is destroyed and the eggs and/or young fish die.

Aquatic insects need rocks for cover as well. Some aquatic insects can drift off or move when disturbed, but many species attach themselves to the rock and cannot move. When a rock is moved, aquatic insects fall, are crushed by the movement, or dry out and die when the rock is placed out of water.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Where can I go creel fishing in Scotland?
I want to go creel fishing (with the cages for lobsters and crabs and such) but I don't know where I can and if I can hire everything, does anyone know anything about this. Also do I need a license to go on the boats?

    • ANSWER:
No you do not need a licence unless you plan to sell them, if it just for personal use then you can creel fish to your hearts content. As long as it is not for fish but for crab and lobster, it comes under the fisheries act 1984.
you will not find anywhere to hire them but each pot(creel) costs a couple of pound and you will find them for sale second hand in the likes of the press and journal, oban times etc.
depending where you are I would recommend the west coast from oban down to southend on either side. there are plenty of places to get a mooring, just get in touch with one of the many marinas, there will also be private ones just get in touch with the estates.

  2. QUESTION:
sea fishing, what and how am i allowed to catch with Line, net, creels ?
is there a set of regulations i can read ?
    in scottish water
    north east scotland.

    • ANSWER:
Yes, and aside from national controls, they are further complex on the State level. Goto DNR pr more specifically department of game and wildlife website and check the specific state guidelines.

  3. QUESTION:
    diy fly fishing creel?
Looking for instructions to make an old fashion fishing creel from willow, birch, etc...
jest looking to do something for hobby work.

    • ANSWER:
I just use an old fashioned bucket made of plastic.

  4. QUESTION:
How long can you leave fish in a creel before they go bad?

    • ANSWER:
It depends on things like the kind of fish and the outside temperature. If it's 100 degrees, you'd better get the fish on ice in a matter of minutes, but if it's 35 degrees, you can keep the fish fresh all day as long as they don't dry out. Trout seem to lose quality in a hurry, though if it isn't too hot out they'll be good for 2-3 hours, while panfish will last longer.

  5. QUESTION:
How's fishing on Devil's Lake in March?
We're planning a BIG fishing trip the first weekend in March this year for 12-14 people (8-9 fishermen) and are wondering a) will the fishing be okay, b) will the ice be okay, and c) are there any spots on the lake that we can hit without paying a professional guide through the nose to bring us to? We are coming from central Minnesota (5-hour drive), and want to make this a fun outing for our group of friends but still manage to catch a few decent fish. We are planning on staying at Woodland Resort on Creel's Bay, so with pop-ups and snowmobiles would like to stay pretty close.....though we're willing to drive around the lake and hop on a different access if it's worth it. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

      Devils lake? michigan?

Foul Weather Gear Fishing

marine clothing, foul weather gear, fishing jacket, raincoat products ...

How to Choose Foul-Weather Gear for Sailing?

Whether on a dinghy or a keelboat, if you decide that you really don't want to get wet (even in nice weather), you want to make sure you choose the appropriate foul-weather gear. When looking for foulies a" foul-weather gear a" keep the following points in mind:

  • Style: Separate chest-height overalls and a jacket are the most versatile and warmest combination. Plus, the jacket can be a stylish addition to your shoreside attire. Paddling or kayaking tops with neck seals that keep water from going down your neck are popular with smallboat (dinghy and catamaran) sailors, and you can even wear them in combination with a wet suit. In colder weather, dinghy sailors favor onepiece dry suits with elastic cuffs at the neck and wrists.
  • Material: Many manufacturers offer several different lines of foul-weather gear. Lighter weight is for active, small-boat racers in temperate conditions, and heavier, "bulletproof" gear is for cold-weather offshore sailing. If you have to have the best, invest in breathable gear made from a hightech fabric that allows water vapor to escape from the inside, minimizing the clammy feeling you get from most waterproof clothing.
  • Room to move: Make sure that you still have a full range of motion, even with your warmest layers underneath and your life jacket on top.
  • Construction: To minimize leakage, make sure that tape seals the seams on the inside. Look for extra fabric on the seat and knees a" these areas can wear out from the rough deck surfaces on a boat.
  • Hood: A built-in hood that you can fold away under the collar is invaluable when it starts to rain.
  • Pockets: Make sure that the overalls as well as the jacket have pockets a" bigger and more are better.
  • Color: Choose bright colors so that you stand out in a crowd a" and especially so that someone can see you if you fall overboard. Avoid white or blue outerwear, because you may be hard to find in the water.
  • Safety: With all this cool gear, don't forget that you might be wearing it in the water. Give your attire the float test and jump in a swimming pool while wearing the maximum cold-weather layered look. The float test may further encourage you to wear your life jacket.

Inflatable Fishing Rafts

Inflatable Fishing Rafts Waterst

Deciding Between Inflatable Rafts

Inflatable rafts are a great way to enjoy the water without having to invest in an expensive and hard to store water craft. The only trick is deciding which one is for you. This will teach you a bit about what the advantages are to an inflatable boat versus a regular boat and how to find an inflatable version for your needs.

Differences in Rafts

The main reason people opt for an inflatable raft versus a regular one is the price compared to buying a boat. Another big reason for making this selection is the storage factor. Not everyone has the space to keep a full size water craft, or can also afford keeping this type of vessel housed in storage or docked. This type of inflatable craft can be stored with great ease in a garage, basement or storage shed.

These types of rafts are also much easier to transport. While a standard boat requires a trailer and hitch, a blow up raft simply goes in the car as is to be inflated at the water. Getting a regular boat into the water alone can be a tremendous hassle that takes a good deal of time, as well as precision. At the end of the day, you also do not have to get the boat back on the trailer to transport back. This can additionally be a bigger liability for driving which also means extra insurance expenses.

Synthetic Rubber Coatings Vs. Plastic Coatings

The two types of main coatings for inflatable rafts are synthetic rubber and plastic. Both have pros and cons. Synthetic rubber does better with resisting abrasion. This also does better with extreme temperatures. When it comes to storage, synthetic rubber does better with preventing the growth of mold and mildew. These inflatable crafts are good for severe climates and outdoors men and women who need to leave the raft inflated for a prolonged period. Also, if you plan to use your raft frequently, this might be the better choice for you. Because of their durability, butted seams and ability to be more useable in more situations, synthetic rubber coated boats tend to come with a higher price tag.

Plastic coatings do well with returning easier to their original shape and size after deflation. This makes storage much less hassle. Stronger versions of plastic coated rafts can also do well with standing up to cold temperatures. Pretty much, though, these have a more limited use. If you need a boat that can be subjected to bright, direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time or remain inflated or exposed to the elements, a plastic coated inflatable boat probably isn't for you. Take into consideration how you intend to use your boat and then decide which inflatable rafts are for you.

  2. QUESTION:
anchor for my inflatable fishing raft?
How heavy should it be, im thinking about using a rope+brick

    • ANSWER:
      How big is the raft?

A ten footer needs just between two and five pounds maybe.

  3. QUESTION:
Inflatable raft/kayak/canoe for fishing. What is the best choice?
I am looking for an inflatable kayak/canoe/raft to use for fishing local rivers and lakes. I don't have enough space for a hardshell, so I've been looking for inflatable dinghy type boats, but one that is elongated so I can paddle alone or with someone. Also, I want hard seats to sit on. I found a Saturn prototype on ebay, but have been unable to find a similar model. Price limit = 0. Help.

    • ANSWER:
i have almost the exact same problem right now. Im leaning toward a canoe that i found on the sports authority website that is for 0. They also have many inflatable rafts but im afraid that they will pop. check out that site and maybe Dicks for some cheaper boats. Hope we can find what we're looking for.

  4. QUESTION:
Is there any inflatable rafts that are dependable?
I have this little lake me and my brother fish at and we catch great fish but there's this spot in it you can't reach with a cast so we need a inflatable raft one time we went on 1 and caught the biggest fish we ever caught and were looking forward to doing that again so any good blow up rafts you know

    • ANSWER:
Andee I cannot give you the exact name of an inflatable, but I can tell you what to look for. You don't want one of those shiny plastic toy type, you can drown in it! You want a raft that is covered with sturdy fabric to protect it from fish hooks, your shoes, etc. And you want one that has multiple air chambers--the more the better. That way if one gets punctured, the others will keep you afloat.

There are also personal fishing float tubes. It's like a big inner tube with a mesh harness. You wear it around your waist with a pair of waders on and bob around upright so you can fish. You wear special kick fins and propel yourself by kicking with your legs. It has pockets and straps to keep your gear in. You can get one at BassPro with a pair of kickers for about 0. Check it out at http://www.basspro.com/White-River-Fly-Shop-Lost-Lake-Open-Front-Float-Tube-Combo/product/10200385/-1570905

Make sure you check your state boating regulations to be sure you can use said crafts on said water. And wear your PFD if you get a raft. Even if you don't drown you don't want to get busted!

  5. QUESTION:
Am I allowed to launch an inflatable raft is NYS Park waters?
I know that in NYC only canoes and kayaks are allowed but I was wondering if I can use my Sevylor Fish Hunter raft in NYS Park waters such as Jones Beach State Park, Captree State Park and Bear Mountain State Park. The NYS DEC doesn't outright say they aren't allowed but doesn't seem to mention anything about inflatable rafts either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. .

    • ANSWER:
      Hello,

NYS Parks and Recreation does address dinghies, kayaks, and canoes. You're boat will be classified as a non-mechanically propelled vessel according to the regulation.

      I cut and pasted a portion of the regulation here;
"The following vessels are exempt from state registration requirements:
vessels operating commercially with either a U.S. or foreign
document; vessels legally registered in another state (up to 90
consecutive days maximum); lifeboats (not including tenders
and dinghies); competition race boats; and non mechanically
      propelled vessels."

You can get the whole booklet here; http://nysparks.state.ny.us/recreation/boating/documents/NYSBoatersGuide.pdf

Fishing Boats

Buy the Award Winning 'Esca Lures' online at http://www.innovativefishingtackle.co.uk/

If you're a first-timer and you want to purchase fishing boats in a hassle-free way, there are some tips that can help you out. These tips can be very useful when you are selecting the right fishing boat for you.

It is always advisable to put into consideration the role that the fishing boat has to play. We all know that the fishing boats' main function is to be utilized in fishing activities. But prior to your purchase, it is necessary to take into account some other purposes.

Do you intend to use your fishing boat in the ocean, lakes, or in other bodies of water? Before buying, it is always good to consider the place or the setting where you will be using your fishing boat. Another important consideration is the time your fishing boat will be used. Are you going to use it for day fishing and day trips or for fishing activities overnight? If you are planning to use your fishing boat for overnight fishing in the ocean, it is better to choose a fishing boat that features a hull. Fishing boats like these are made specifically for rough waters. They promise more comfort due to their ability to ride with the ocean's waves.

Moreover, your budget definitely matters. Fishing boats can be costly so it is important that you know how much you want to invest for your boat. You should also ask if the fishing boat that you want to buy has a warranty. Since warranties are not uniform across dealerships, brands, or even the time of the year, you need to carefully scrutinize the warranty that comes with the fishing boat you wish to purchase.

Aluminum Fishing Boats

Aluminum fishing boats are growing more and more popular these days because of the many advantages they have over those that are made from fiberglass or steel. Aluminum fishing boats are typically more resistant to corrosion, rot and leaks and they are more power-efficient. Aside from that, aluminum fishing boats are also stronger and are easy to fix and repair once they get damaged.

It is true that you need more bucks in purchasing an aluminum boat but it will pay off in the long run with much savings in fuel, repairs and upkeep and maintenance and towing. Aluminum fishing boats are ideal not only for fishing but also for your recreational activities. They can be used if you want to cruise with your family, whether in fresh or salt waters.

Aluminum fishing boats are good for individual fishermen because they are really easy to manage. This type of fishing boat has a high strength-to-weight ratio making it easy to carry by just one person. It is also easy to load on an ordinary vehicle and set into the water when you are ready to use it. Another factor that adds to the aluminum fishing boat's versatility is that it is easy to upgrade. This boat allows you to install some features that you may want.

Also, you can't question the durability of an aluminum fishing boat. They sport a solid construction with metal pieces welded along the boat's seams which prevents water from getting inside and makes joint disconnection less likely to happen. Unlike fiberglass fishing boats that usually shatter, aluminum fishing boats withstand impacts by means of deforming into dents or dings which can simply be hammered out.

An aluminum fishing boat is undoubtedly a good investment. Because it is lighter, it requires a smaller motor that require less fuel to operate. Talking about maintenance, an aluminum fishing boat just needs regular cleaning and not routine maintenance like waxing. With its many advantages, an aluminum fishing boat is truly of great value.

Inflatable Fishing Boats

Have you ever considered an inflatable fishing boat, rather than a traditional "boat"? They cost much less money, and are extremely portable. If you're looking for a boat, it may be time to give and inflatable boat a look. There are kayaks, personal pontoon boats, and motor mount boats that all come in inflatable versions. Seriously, there are even inflatable boats that you can mount small engines onto.

Personal pontoon boats are a wonderful way to fish a river. They offer speed and versatility that walking and wading can't even compare to. With the aid of a personal pontoon boat, a person can cover miles and miles over river in a few short hours. These inflatable fishing boats offer an angler the ability to explore water that otherwise would go un-fished. This is especially true in the west, where rivers experience much less fishing pressure than other areas of the country.

Inflatable Kayaks can be wonderful for running rivers with a heavier flow. As a matter of fact, some inflatable Kayaks can be used in up to class 4 rapids! It's true, although I would suggest that only experienced boaters try running rapids of this caliber right off the bat. Inflatable kayaks can be wonderful for those of you who fly into remote fishing camps. They fold up small enough to fit right on the float plane with you. Inflatable kayaks are also great for campers, seeing as how the kayak will fit into a backpack, so that it can be carried with you. Yep, if you like to hike into remote lakes, an inflatable kayak might be perfect for you.

There are even inflatable motor mount boats. My family has an inflatable motor mount boat at our cabin in northern Canada. We also have a small 5 horsepower motor for our inflatable that pushes the boat around quite well. Then when it's time to leave, we simply deflate the boat and store it in the basement until the next year. It's a beautiful system. The cost of one of these motor mount inflatables is considerably less than a traditional boat that can easily cost into the high thousands of dollars. We find our inflatable to be a cost effective alternative.

Inflatable boats come in all shapes and sizes in this day and age and offer boaters added conveniences that traditional boats just don't offer. If you're in the market for a boat, it may be time to give inflatables some consideration. A quality inflatable may make boating necessary for many people who thought that boating was beyond their budget.

I'm building, well actually adding on to, my medical kit. Currently it is a fishing tackle box (haha pretty organized though) but im goign to buy a medical bag preferrably a backpack (any suggestions for the backback?, ). i've been using galls.com and remotemedical.com searching for things. i plan on becoming a paramedic, and maybe a citizen first responder, I know nothing now but I'm goign to start training soon. i wan't to be ready to save lives or just help small injuries. I want something to keep in my car (so im not sure what would go bad in the heat, maybe pills?) that way it is always a few steps away from where I am. I plan on goign all out eventually slowly adding things, I want to get an AED eventually, but for now I want things liek hemostat, bloodstoppers, I have the basic first aid items in mind but feel free to add simple things liek triple antibiotic ointment in your list. thats what I want a hug elist of things to include in my bag. BVM, hemostat, anything you cna think of. also I want it in a backpack because I want to join a SAR team and be able to have all of my stuff with me. I wan't a pack that can carry thing sliek IV access kits 9even though Im not certified to use thes eI want a bag that has enough room for it fo rwhen I do get certified. Include things that I would need training for as well...I wont buy or use them until I am trained to do so but Id liek to have them in mind. Thanks for everything. please people who know wha tthey are talking about
to the guy who said I was a nut job; I take now offense to that but I didn't mean I was getting an IV Kit without training I meant If I get a nice backpack i want room so that way in the future It will fit that in it when I am trained in that field. And as far as AED i'll get trained in that at red cross or something I want one of them for family, friends etc. or whoever it may be. i will not use anything I am not qualified to use UNTIL i am qualified to use it.
    i take NO* offense.

    • ANSWER:
Short answer- DON'T buy anything until you've been trained & authorized to use it. Having a fully stocked jump kit with an AED will be looked at as whackerish by those working & teaching in the EMS field.
Long answer- When you join an agency you will be issued or told what equipment you'll need. Unless you are an experienced provider, showing up with your own gear will get you teased mercilessly, if they let you in at all. After you've been around for a while you'll figure out what you should carry. There are a few things you shouldn't carry-
      - AED: Unless you have someone in your home that is at risk for a cardiac arrest, you won't need one. They are also a prescription item and cost 00-00, not including items such as replacement batteries, pads, etc that expire in as little as 2yrs.
      - ALS Equipment (IV's, meds, etc): They require prescriptions and a physician's authorization to use. They have a limited shelf life and specific storage requirements. I know of very few agencies that allow their providers to use ALS skills off-duty. Getting caught with this equipment without authorization can result in criminal penalties and/or forfeiture of any professional certifications.

What you will need to carry will depend on where you live. I personaly carry a fairly well stocked personal jump-kit, but I live in a rural area with 10-15min response times and may need to do more than someone in an urban area where help is only a few minutes away. Also when off-duty EMS providers are limited to BLS skills, this includes ALS providers.

Once you've been around a while and have decided to get a kit there are several catagories to consider-
      - Airway/Breathing: CPR mask or BVM, oral airways, basic suction-> turkey baster
      - Bleeding Control: assorted bandages (4x4, 5x9), roller gauze (3"), triangular bandages, 1 multi-trauma dressing (optional), occlusive dressings (optional), burn sheet (optional)
      - Orthopedic (optional): board or SAM splint, cold packs
      - Misc: good flashlight, pen/paper, folding knife, kleenex, blanket, stethoscope, BP cuff (optional)
      - Infection Control: gloves, glasses, face mask, hand wash, biohazzard bag

      See also-
      http://www.policeposers.com/

Edit: rita_alabama, I forgot to include this-
"Basically, if I'm off duty and I see a car accident, I can provide BLS care, but I can't perform ALS skills such as IV access and intubation."
You may want to check with your medical director about the following. In NYS there is a specific, limited set of conditions in which an off-duty ALS provider can perform ALS skills up to their training level while ASSISTING responding units. To do so BOTH of the following MUST be met-
#1- The off-duty provider must be using ALS equipment from a unit (i.e. flycar, ambulance, fire apparatus, etc) that has responded to the scene in an offical capacity.
#2- The off-duty provider must be either-
      - 2A: At the discretion of, and under the direction & supervision of an on-duty ALS provider authorized to perform the skill (OLMC permission may also be needed)

I use a 3 day assault pack.It has plenty of room and I can get to everything in it easily. You carry a lot of gear.Even more than me and I thought I had a lot.But for long term survival I think you have a good set up.I hope you work out because it will get heavy after a while.Maybe replace some of your food with high protein and calorie foods. Also vitamins like B12 and magnesium are good for energy and muscle function and are very cheap.

Fish Hook Tv Show

Fish Hooks (Disney Channel TV show) characters photo - Fish Hooks ...

The fish cannot hide with the fish tracker here

Fishing is a very relaxing activity provided one can find the fish to catch; well in this day and age of gps we can now track the fish also. Yes, some very ingenious person used the gps technology and created a fish finder! It gives a 3 Dimensional image of the fish underwater. This will definitely improve the chances of getting that big fish that you know is out there but just out of your sight under the sea or in the fresh water.

This fish tracking gadget is a handheld tracker that combines the use of gps navigating software in combination with sonar technology. The new fish finder can detect a 10 ton school of tuna fish up to 15 miles from a fishing vessel. The size of each school can also be determined to ensure that not only does one fish bite the bait, all of them do.

In competitions where fishing is a sport, the use of a fish tracking system may not be allowed as it gives the fisherman an unfair advantage over his opponents so you will want to check with your competition rules and regulations if a tracking device is allowed. Some competitions do allow the use of this tracking device and hence you will not be disqualified from your tournament.

As mentioned before, the tracking device gives a 3 dimensional image of a single fish around or the entire school of fish depending of course on where you are fishing. It can also provide 3 dimensional images of the under growth of the water like ferns, sea weed and the like which is very useful in focusing on steering clear of those waters and avoid any unnecessary tangling of the hook, line and sinker. Once the correct location of the fish has been locked in on to your fish finder, the depth and distance of the fish from the vessel you are in can also be seen clearly so that your quest for catching that fish is certainly completed.

This fish tracking is not reserved for professionals; it can also be used by amateurs in electronic tracking devices or amateurs for fishing. The interfaces are usually that easy. Fishing is made fun for everyone with the fish tracker. No empty plates for dinner after buying this!

lol thanks but this is not an advertisement.. DO NOT feel like you have to go see the site.. I just want feedback on the statement
So maybe I should summerize it and put the whole thing on the about us section? This way gets them interested but wanting more...

    • ANSWER:
Much too long. Cut it to a single paragraph, 3-4 sentences, maybe with some 3-5 word bullet points beneath. Save the details ( media coverage, big names, sponsorship) for those sections of the website.

Most people who surf the web who don't have the patience to be "jumping from site to site looking for the information" also don't have the patience to read a 600-word "mission statement".

Fishing Tackle: Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Revo Baitcasting Reel Rundown

Opting for fishing tackle can be tricky. There is such a big selection of tackle that is offered and such a broad deviation in both price tag and superiority, that it's lots of times challenging to select just the proper rod or fishing reel. One factor I've found that lends a hand is to read Rundowns posted by other anglers. This provides you special knowledge into the benefits and non-benefits of a particular piece of gear. With that in mind, I'd like to provide you with an evaluation of a reel I've employed comprehensively: the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Revo baitcasting reel.

About the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Revo Baitcasting Reel

This is an avant garde an everyday reel from Abu Garcia that coordinates intense hardness with excellent, augmented utilisation. The fishing reel has precision-machined brass DuraGear gears, together with an oversized main gear safeguarded by an aluminium frame. I've observed that this layout gives both sturdiness and ease to the fishing reel while making it long-lasting and quite strong. Drag is an essential aspect to me on any reel, and the Revo does not dissatisfy. The CarbonMatrix drag system works efficiently despite where it's situated. The stainless steel bearings are shielded and the roller and spool bearings are created to resist corrosion. The bearings offer extra-smooth casting in nearly any fishing conditions you can envision. The retrieve is effortless also.

Additional Characteristics of the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Revo Baitcasting Reel

The Revo fishing reel has a six-pin centrifugal brake that helps the fisher direct casts in a range of fishing venues. You can specifically order a left-handed design in case you need to. The reel carries 145 yards of .30 monofilament line and has an extraordinary retrieve ratio of 6.3:1. It is made with 10 stainless steel bearings and 1 roller bearing. An feature I particularly like is the 1-piece aluminium frame. Alongside the crank side cover, this makes the fishing reel quite even. The Revo's braking system is excellent in addition and contains the brand name Linear Magnetic Brake. The enormous main gear is an added vital facet, with the machined aluminium spools. The people at Abu Garcia have not ignored the ergonomics of the fishing reel. It offers padded handgrips that are quite comfortable. The reel weighs in at just under 9 ounces, something you are confident to appreciate when struggling with a fish on the line.

About the Abu Garcia Company

Abu Garcia was established in Sweden in 1921. Set in the vicinity of the Morrum River, it begin its life as a watch plant. In the late 1930s, the enterprise shifted attention to creating and constructing substantial precision fishing reels. Abu Garcia's first fishing fishing reel was made in 1941, the popular Ambassadeur fishing reel in 1952 and the Cardinal spinning reel in 1965. These days, Abu Garcia is know as one of the world's leading fishing reel creators and its products reveal a long institution in fine Swedish engineering that makes reliable and durable reels for all types of fishing.

Provided that you are searching excellent fishing tackle fishing reel, I'd very much suggest the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Revo baitcaster.

Tie Fishing

Tie Fishing - QwickStep Answers Search Engine

The Best Fly Fishing Knot That You Can Tie

Tying a high quality fly fishing knot is an important aspect of a repertoire for a fly fisherman in order to catch the ideal fish. The line is basically consisted of different lines on top of the fly at the tail end; consequently tying a good knot is a requirement so as not to make it come loose when you are out on your fishing voyage. Otherwise there will be gloomy tale to tell of the fishes that get away.

So how to tell what is a good knot? The mark of one is that it will not become slacken when you are battling with the fish. To do so, a good practice is to moisten it by applying water or saliva, then tighten it with a firm pull to enable it to be snug firmly throughout the whole knot. That is the correct method if the fish will to drag in one direction; it will not cause the line to sever as the knot is consistently tightened.

After strengthening the knot, it is vital to check every knot to make certain that there is no abrasion. If not the fisherman has to redo it so that it can face up to the test. When you discover that a line is torn or worn out, then it is time to get a new one or the knot will cause you to lose your catch. Every part of the line and knot have to be in ideal state or you will never get the best fly fishing knot irrespective of your tying skill.

Perhaps we can examine certain types of knots in order to get the fishing line equipped and all set up. Nearest to the reel, we have the Arbor knot that is most frequently employed to unite backing of the spool to the reel. After which, you utilize an Albright knot to fasten the backing to the fly line. That can create a problem as generally the lines are constructed of dissimilar materials. The next fly fishing knot to consider is the Nail knot as it joins the leader to the fly line and it is a very important knot as it is what turns the fly over at casting. The next to take note is the Double Surgeon's fly knot that ties the tippet to the leader. Finally, the Improved Clinch fly fishing knot is for most part employed to connect the tippet to the fly, therefore the job of tying the fly fishing line is done.

  3. QUESTION:
What are the best flies to tie for fishing the south branch of the Ausable in Michigan.?
We will be fishing around Memorial day. We will be fishing the south branch to avoid the fishing pressure of the "Holy Waters". This will be my first time going and am interested to see what the best flies to tie are.

PS. I was looking more for dry flies but would love to hear any outstanding wet ones (want to catch fish). Fish on and thanks.

    • ANSWER:
During spring, many of the hatching insects you'll encounter will be slightly larger in size than what you'd find during the fall through early spring.

Late May is prime time for Gray Drakes, Brown Drakes, and March Browns. These are usually in the #10-12 range. Trout also feed on Red Quills and Hendricksons during May, and those run in the #12-14 range. Sulphurs (#16-18) should get going about this time as conditions start to warm up. And don't forget caddis; they're a staple through the whole season.

To keep life less comlicated and the fishing productive and fun, I'd avoid worrying about matching the hatch. I'd take a few chunky patterns such as Humpys, Wulffs or Irresistibles to adequately represent the Drakes. A #14 parachute Adams should do fine for the Hendricksons/Red Quills. Light Cahills can do double duty for Sulphurs. I'd probably take a #16 in a parachute version for simplicity's sake.

Be sure to take some caddis patterns. Since the trout will be well accustomed to seeing caddis by Memorial Day, this represents your best opportunity to take trout on dries during any time of day except when trout are briefly keyed in on a particular mayfly hatch in progress. There are many great patterns to choose from. I like Goddard Caddis for their ability to fish well in fast and slow currents. A palmered pattern such as a Henryville or EHC can skate nicely, too.

You might find some terrestrial fishing opportunities. I'd take an ant pattern, probably a #14 or #16 black winged ant. This would fish well in the surface film or awash in the current. I wouldn't bother with beetles, since a Humpy will do double duty here. In fact, any of your Wulffs, Irresistibles or Humpys that you've brought for fishing as Drakes will get interest from terrestrial feeding trout. No hopper opportunities to worry about here at this time.

  4. QUESTION:

Drag Nets For Fishing

Fish leap out water as fishermen drag the net on the banks of Qiandao ...

Fishing at Lake Bungsamran for the Giant Siamese Carp, Bangkok, Thailand

I arrived at Bungsamran Lake at 6am on the dot, just as the daylight was beginning to appear. It was a beautiful morning with very little breeze, the surface of the Lake was like a mirror only being disturbed by the appearance of some of the huge fish that lurk in this world class fishing water.

Khun Boonsong mixed the bait while he waited for me to set my rods up, the apprehension of the first cast still makes my heart beat that much faster here. Khun Boomsong is one of the leading carp specialist guides working here and what he does not know about Siamese Carp is not worth knowing.

The bait that he had mixed was a combination of baby milk powder, custard cream flavour, sweet corn with a few other secret ingredients (he calls it his mega mix carp bait); all this was added into the base mix of rice bran. This blend is a much wetter combination than the one we use to catch the Mekong Catfish.

Nothing had happened for the first half hour, so Boonsong had gone to buy breakfast; he had not been gone thirty seconds, when bingo, I had a bite, the fish ran and the line was screaming off the reel, then it just stopped (probably sensing the hook). I wound the reel to take up the slack line, I thought, maybe it had shed the hook, suddenly the line tightened as the fish moved, I immediately struck and set the hook firmly in its mouth; the fight was on!

After the initial excitement of hooking into the fish, I had started to look for hints as to what kind of fish it was. From my previous experiences, the Striped Catfish and the Mekong Catfish are similar; they tend to run with the bait stripping line off the reel at a fantastic rate. The Mekong and the smaller striped Catfish give long hard runs, which slowly curve in a aCa or a wide aSa shaped course.

The Siamese Giant Carp tend to run deep and turn suddenly in an almost zig zag path. It is hard to believe that these fish when in the water are completely weightless and you are just fighting its sheer power.

My line carved a classic letter aZa and I was fairly certain that I had a carp on the end of the line. I knew I had to take my time and play the fish, unlike the Giant Mekong Catfish the Carp has a very soft mouth and too much drag will pull the hook out. I decided to back off the drag slightly; I used an Accurate Boss Magnum 870 with Lever Drag, very fine consistent adjustments to the drag are easily achieved without moving your hands from the rod and reel. They are much easier to use than a fixed spool reel especially when fishing for the larger specimens.

My aim at this point was to tire the fish as quickly as possible and keep it out as far as I could; the Siamese Giant Carp are renowned for appearing to give up and roll over, then at the last minute making a dash for freedom (there are many bungalows surrounding the lake and a pier splitting it in half, many fish have been lost in between the supports and stanchions).

The fight was ten minutes in and I had made progress, the fish was tiring -it was not the only one, my arms were beginning to ache. After another five minutes of struggle, it made a determined sharp turn, which actually brought its side out of the water, it was a Siamese Carp.

The Carp made several more sharp turns and then typical to these creatures, it feigned submission, which I had been ready for. I shifted to one side and instead of letting the fish run underneath the bungalow we were in, I moved it towards the left, increasing the drag slightly and with some fancy footwork (I new those ballet lessons would come in handy one day) the last ditched run for the snags was foiled.

The carp made its last attempt to go deep, kicking up the silt -causing lots of bubbles of natural gas, which is trapped in the bottom of the lake- but by this time it was exhausted so was I, but the fish did not know that, Boomsong appeared, with the landing net in hand I was never more pleased to see him, he quickly prepared the deck to receive the fish.

We unhooked the line from its mouth and we also removed another snapped line from a previous battle which it had obviously won.

The Siamese Giant Carp weighed in at 25.3Kg 56lbs which was quickly returned to the lake after a couple of photographs for the album.

  4. QUESTION:
Wasn't it just pure laziness for white settlers to own slaves instead of doing the work with their own hands?
Doesn't this mind frame still exist today in things like factory farms and drag net fishing? Doing anything to increase short term profits instead of doing things for the long term benefits.
End_ why don't you try answering the actual question.
George forget you man. You actually defend slavery?
Hardly anybody even answered the question asked. I said was it lazy for the white settlers to bring slaves instead of do their own work. That is the question.
Hae Jung, I don't know about the whole bigger and stronger thing, there are big strong people of all races.

    • ANSWER:
Do you people REALLY think that Slavery STARTED with the founding of the United States and Canada?

Do you REALLY want to forget THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS of years of slavery because of the fact that in the last 300 years, the area which eventually became the United States and Canada had slaves?

Doesn't it matter at all that Slavery is still taking place today? 2009... As you fu*king read this?

Do you want to b*tch about what Black Americans have gone through?

Why not put that energy towards topping the MODERN SLAVERY that is taking place in Africa right now?

YOU, whatever you are, and Black Americans have not been slaves for many generations yet your relatives in Africa are still buying and selling slaves, both male and female, right this second.

Until ALL African Slaves are free, you have NO RIGHT to b*tch about the supposed racism and slavery you have personally experienced.

Both you and I can go to Africa RIGHT THIS SECOND and buy an Africa Child, male or female, for .00 in the boondocks and 0.00 in the more metro sections...

Slavery is STILL LEGAL in a number of Middle Eastern Theocracies.

There are an estimated THIRTY MILLION slaves on earth RIGHT THIS SECOND!

How dare you b*tch about ANYTHING when you are free...

      THIRTY
      MILLION
      HUMAN
      SLAVES
      IN
      2009

      AS YOU READ THIS.

ANYONE that B*TCHES and MOANS about past slavery while the human slave trade still exists should be ASHAMED of themselves.

      That number, THIRTY MILLION SLAVES?

THAT DOESN'T EVEN INCLUDE CHILD WARRIORS...

Children that are forced to take drugs and are beaten and brainwashed in to fighting wars in the names of their evil warlords.

      Africa...
      South America...
      Asia...
      The Middle East...

CHILDREN across the globe are being mind-raped, drugged, and abused in all meanings of the word and forced to fight in a cause they have nothing to do with.

The MALES are lucky... They are only fed drugs and mentally-raped... The GIRLS are drugged, mentally-raped, sent out to kill in the day time, then used as living sex toys at night back at camp...

Those killed in the filed are the LUCKY ones...

ANY American that thinks they have ANY IDEA what suffering is is delusional and should try being raped and drugged then sent out to kill and then see how fu*king great their lives in the US were.

ANY American that thinks they have ANY IDEA what suffering is should go live in the Middle East for a few months... BE GANG RAPED if they walk down an alley by themselves then are arrested and sentenced to PRISON TIME AND BEATINGS by the state for putting themselves in the position TO BE RAPED by violating Islamic Virtue Laws.

ANY American that thinks they have ANY IDEA what suffering is should go work in an Asian "Massage Parlor" on the east or west coast where women are held against their will and forced to have sex with men to pay off their passage to the US.

ANY American that thinks they have ANY IDEA what suffering is should go try to be a kidnapped teen ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES that is forced to prostitute him/herself by her pimp as they make "The Circuit" across the country... Being forced to suck off guys in rest stops or in motel rooms with 'dates' set up through Craig's List.

If YOU, personally, have never been a slave, you have NOTHING to complain about...

Truly... Please... Quit your b*tching and learn to accept your life as it is.

Newfoundlands for their ability to brave cold waters and drag in heavy fishing nets/people?

Which breed do you think is the ultimate canine athlete and why?

Carp Fishing In France-secrets To Catch This Dumb Fish

Millions of people from all over the world love to visit France as it is a hot spot tourist destination. Because of numerous carp lakes found in France, you can pick one that allures you, so that you can enjoy the exciting carp fishing activity when you are in France. You will find more than 40lb to 50 lb carp in majority of the carp lakes here!

Mostly, carp is a dumb fish and you may not have a good knowledge for catching this species of fish. Being the most inactive fish, carp is the master in its own territory. It can defy and do all those things to divert the angler's attention. To get an easy catch, you need to think a bit seriously on how to trap it. These are some secrets that aid you to catch abundant carp easily.

- Search for your carp: Searching for carp is one of the essential task you have to do. Majority of the experienced anglers' don't worry to pay attention to this little task but it is the basic step towards catching your carp easily. You need to fish where you find carp, or else, you wont be able to catch one.
- Know the spot to place your rod so as to attract the carp: This is an essential part of a good catch. Marker rod forms the most necessary part of your fishing kit. And most of the anglers do forget to get one. There are chances that the carp doesn't feed although it is there. In order to get the best chance, you should pay attention on the essential features.
- Bait perfectly: You need to select and apply the bait properly. The probability of success and failure is equal. You should add sufficient amount of food, so that your fish is engrossed in eating and catching it. The carp may not be able to notice the hook bait if you attach a lot of food. But if you recognize that you are fishing on an incorrect location, you can never go back then. You can freely add some more food for the carp if the place is perfect.
- Observe the water: Observation is another necessary point that must be considered seriously. You will be amazed to see leaping carp even during a dull or a rainy day, provided you have a careful watch over it.
- Keep moving: You must never make a big shelter that will take nearly half a day to move. The fish may move out of your area if you do so, or you will have to search a new spot for the catch.
- Adjust with the conditions: There are number of lakes in France and each lake varies from the other. There are several variations like vegetation, makeup of lake, depth of lake and nature of lake bed, etc. You need to adjust according to the different conditions. You can change the hooklink material or the hair length. But you need to realize what you are doing, what your rig must do, the type of water you are on etc. Same tactics with every lake wont work well.
- Covert the chance: Lastly, you need to be careful enough to convert the possibilities. However, you need not change the hook for every fish, but it is essential to do whenever it is required. Smooth hooks, poor rigs, old line might be some factors for bad catch. Inspect all the equipment before you start and this will improve the chances of conversion.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
I lost the biggest fish of my life (carp) ripped the hook off. How to tie 50lb line on hooks for carp?
How do you tie a 50lb line on hooks for carp?
The carp was bigger than 40 inches.
I was pulling it out of the weeds (slowly). It swam everywhere and far. But, once it got to land my dad was pulling the line and the hook ripped off. Maybe we should bring a net next time? But how do you put hooks on carp.

    • ANSWER:
Google the (Palomar Knot). This is easy to tie and very strong. The real benefit is that there are two thickness of line in the eye of the hook.

  2. QUESTION:
what are the best type of hooks for carp fishing?
just wondering if you guys can give me any tips for the best type of hooks to be using when carp fishing?i had 5 carp yesterday all around the 2lb mark, but i lost a 12lber right on the bank!!!i am convinced it was because of the hook.i have only started coarse fishing this week,so far after three 5 hour sessions i have caught 7 and lost 4.

    • ANSWER:
Gamakatsu G Carp Method hooks are the best (in my opinion), if you can lay your hands on them. This time of year, like Paul R says, use small hooks and thinner lines, like, size 6,8,10 hooks, 8-10 lb lines. You should remember though that you should always match the size of the hook to the size of the bait. Too small a hook may prevent a solid hook up if your bait is disproportionately large. I agree with Paul that hair rigs are usually safer in terms of hooking a fish.
      Good fishing.

  3. QUESTION:
why do yanks use trebbel hooks to catch carp??? are they that dumb and think they might hook 3 carp in one go?

    • ANSWER:
I am not a yank, a colonist or a damn rebel either, but when the carp swallows th treble hook he tends to regurgitate the hook so that it is caught in his mouth and not buried in his stomach the result kills fewer fish and allows catch and release to be practiced if one wishes.

  4. QUESTION:
Best hooks to use for catfish/carp?
What is the best size hook for catfish and carp?
What type of hook? treble, live-bait hooks......?

    • ANSWER:
I've always used Gamakatsu "Octopus" hooks in size 2/0 for Cats. I don't waste my time on Carp.

  5. QUESTION:
What is the best 'type' of hook to use for carp?
Instead of people saying what size hooks only, could someone please tell me what type of hook is the best to catch carp? (octopus, treble, ....) and a link would be awesome!!!!!

And also what size in that type of hook please

    • ANSWER:
The most important thing is to match the hook pattern and size to the bait and method you are fishing. No good using a size 10 hook with a 30mm boilie, as it would seriously impair the hooking ability of your rig.

For general carp fishing, I use a size 8 or 6 hook with an offset point. I rarely use barbless, unless the rules say I have to.

I'll add a link below to an answer my colleague gave to a question on this subject a few years ago. All I would add is that make sure you get a good quality hook. As a youngster, I remember buying cheap hooks and having them completely straightened by carp. It's not a nice feeling, knowing that the fish of a lifetime just escaped because you didn't pay that little bit extra.

      Good luck!

Where Can One Buy The Iped? We Have Buying Iped Apad Advice

Ever since we first wrote about the iPed Apad, we have had a Gajillion emails asking us, Where can you buy the Android iPed?

Initially, we just reported on the ww.Apad.tv website and we found that there banner add went to Chinagrabber.com. Upon getting to the site, we noticed many Apad models. The iPed is officially an Apad because it runs Google Android.

The several models that are available are Apad iRobot M003, M70003 iPed, Eken M003, and the M7 MID. Our favorite model is the Apad iRobot. The Apad M003 is a 7 inch google Android-running Tablet PC MID. It boasts many robust features for its 9 price including:

According to news articles and people posting things on the internet, Despite its being released in early May, very few of the iRobot Apad units have been seen in the US, due to lack in the touch-screen panels that are bought in Taiwan and taken accrossed the border to Mainland China. The feature we like the most about the iRobot is it has a built-in Webcam for talking on Skype.

Other features include: microphone and stereo speaker for skype out. Touch screen with icon or menu drag features and auto rotation. Broadband Internet access, 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi Google chrome lite browser. Email, Word, Exel, PPT, PDF. M003 Apad Supports Fring, SkypeOut, QQ, MSN, Gtalk.

Our next favorite iPed Apad is the M7003 MID (a.k.a. M7 Apad). While it does not have a webcam, it is only 9-9 USD or around cheaper than the iRobot with about just as many functions. The M7 was released on May 29, 2010 and the next day bloggers from Japan to the USA were blogging Meet iPed, the Android iPad Alternative.

So the main question everyone has been asking online is, Where Can I Buy the iPed? How can I buy the Apad? The Apad iPed is available at several stores, the main one being Chinagrabber.com. The search link is below:

  3. QUESTION:
Where, on line, can I buy an easy to understand, fishing knot tying book?
I need some insrucktions, on how to tie a line to line blood knot!

    • ANSWER:
I'm sure there are any number of knot-tying books, but knots are notoriously difficult to illustrate on the page. Unless you have a chance to look at the book to find out if you can easily understand the illustrations, buying a knot book is gonna be a crapshoot.

I would go to your local fly shop (if you've got one) and ask one of the people there to demonstrate a blood knot for you. I don't mean go to the Wal*Mart fishing aisle, I mean go to a fly fishing shop or a tackle shop where the workers are anglers and are eager to help even if they don't sell you something. Watch someone tie the knot and and then try it yourself. Practice a few times there in the store. Look around the store and see if they have a little knot booklet -- I found some little plastic cards that I keep in my vest that have been helpful over the years, though lately I carry it around in order to let others borrow it rather than my own reference:

      http://www.knotcards.com/html/fishing_knot_cards.html

The second part to this answer is that there is a vast amount of online resources to help you learn to tie fishing knots. As long as you're online looking for knot books, just bring your line to the computer and take a look:

      http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php

      http://www.troutlet.com/Fishing-Knots-W21.aspx

      http://www.orvis.com/orvis_assets/files/index.html

There are others, too, and each one will show you the knot in a slightly different way. Once you tie a blood knot maybe five or six times, you'll have it down. After that, you just get better and faster at tying it.
